Everton pile pressure on Wolves manager

Image
Everton 4 - 0 Wolves Everton ended a five-game winless streak in the Premier League with a resounding victory over a dismal Wolves side at Goodison Park, ramping up the pressure on under-fire manager Gary O’Neil. Author - Craig H from GMCR Football  Both managers were under the spotlight going into Wednesday’s clash after their teams had each shipped four goals at the weekend. While Wolves fans turned on O’Neil, especially after Craig Dawson's two own goals, Everton boss Sean Dyche enjoyed watching his side deliver a much-needed dominant display, lifting them five points clear of the relegation zone. After four games without a goal, Everton made the perfect start. Ashley Young’s sublime 25-yard free-kick bent around the wall and nestled beautifully into the bottom-right corner, ending their scoring drought in style. Elsewhere in the Premier League Six minutes later, it looked like Everton had doubled their lead when James Tarkowski powered in a header from Dwight McNeil’s cro...

Premier League: Bournemouth carry on impressive form

Image
AFC Bournemouth 2 - 1 Leicester City Gary O'Neil enhanced his credentials to become the next permanent Bournemouth manager after leading his side to victory over Leicester City.  Since succeeding Scott Parker, O'Neil has overseen a five-game unbeaten run. This fine win comes after another outstanding comeback against Nottingham Forest last month. Highlights from  AFC Bournemouth - YouTube Although he plays it down when asked, it is increasingly hard to ignore the body of work he is creating at Bournemouth. In terms of the match, Patson Daka's opener gave Leicester some early control, but they failed to capitalise and had no answer to a rousing reply from Bournemouth in the second half. Philip Billing thrashed home a superb volley to level the scores before Ryan Christie touched in Dominic Solanke's knock-down five minutes later to complete the revival. Jamie Vardy came on from the bench to inject urgency into Leicester's play. He went close with a couple of cro...

Image
Wolves 1 - 2 Newcastle United Harvey Barnes' sensational late strike maintained Newcastle's unbeaten start to the season as they came from behind to win at Wolves. Coming off the bench, Barnes curled a beauty from 20 yards out with just 10 minutes remaining, shortly after Fabian Schar had levelled the game. Wolves had taken the lead through Mario Lemina’s first goal since February, but Gary O'Neil's side are still searching for their first win after four games. Click here for more Newcastle United news and stories A closer look at what happened Newcastle looked lively in the early stages of the game, with Wolves keeper Sam Johnstone tipping over Jacob Murphy's effort after the winger burst forward. This sparked a heated exchange between O'Neil and his defender, Craig Dawson. The Magpies kept the pressure on, and Anthony Gordon nearly doubled their advantage, hitting the post after a slick dribble past Nelson Semedo and nutmegging Yerson Mosquera. Pictures ...

However, Cunha, a rare bright spot in an otherwise tough season for Gary O’Neil’s side, equalised in the 31st minute with a poacher’s finish. The Brazilian forward then turned provider early in the second half, setting up Joao Gomes to give Wolves the lead. The pair reversed roles later, as Cunha netted his second with a spectacular strike from the edge of the area. Fulham’s misery deepened when Joachim Andersen p...

New boss inspires Wolves to win over Leicester

Image
Leicester City 0 - 3 Wolves Vítor Pereira’s debut as a Premier League manager was pretty much perfect.  A two-time league champion with Porto, Pereira has finally been given his chance in England – and it couldn’t have started much more comfortably. Author - Jamie P Wolves found themselves 3-0 up by half-time, but that’s not to say Pereira has instantly turned them into a free-scoring machine. Instead, they simply capitalised on their opportunities when they arose. The opener came after Nelson Semedo lofted a speculative ball down the right channel. Somehow, it made its way to Gonçalo Guedes in the box. The Portuguese forward, making just his second league start of the season, hooked it past Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward with Wolves’ first shot under Pereira’s management. The second goal had a touch of fortune about it. Matt Doherty sent a hopeful diagonal ball towards Leicester’s right-back, James Justin, who allowed it to roll past him – unaware that Joao Gomes had sneaked ...

Premier League: Man United are now a point from the Champions League

Image
AFC Bournemouth 0 - 1 Manchester United Manchester United are now only a point from the Champions League after Casemiro's stunning overhead kick edged Manchester United a massive step closer.  In a match that was clear-cut opportunities, a piece of magic from Casemiro proved the difference. The midfielder picked up a beautiful pass from Christian Eriksen and turned away from Marcos Senesi before acrobatically hammering home. As was the case against Wolves last week , United lacked urgency against Bournemouth with Dominic Solanke twice going close and David Brooks forcing a fingertip save from De Gea. They were without their top goal scorer this season, Marcus Rashford , and struggled to mount a serious threat for much of the time after their goal.  Wout Weghorst almost scored late on. His strike was punched away by the Bournemouth keeper and kept the score at 1-0. Bruno Fernandes also nearly scoed before that. They managed to see the game out though, and thanks t...

After the break, Saka added a second with a powerful left-footed strike into the right corner, capitalising on a quickly taken free-kick that caught the visitors off guard. A closer look at the match Although Arsenal weren't at their best, they were always in control and fully deserved the victory against determined opposition. Wolves debutant Jorgen Strand Larsen had a good chance in the first half, but his header was well saved by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. Substitute Matheus Cunha had an opportunity to equalise, but Raya comfortably dealt with his weak effort as Wolves pressed for a goal. Despite their efforts, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil will have few complaints about the result, as his team struggled to create clear chances ...

Spurs responded swiftly, with Rodrigo Bentancur nodding in a powerful close-range header from Pedro Porro’s pinpoint corner. Moments later, they were handed a golden opportunity to take the lead when Brennan Johnson was brought down by Andre in the box. However, Wolves keeper José Sá guessed correctly, denying Son Heung-min from the spot. The missed penalty didn’t deter Totten ham’s attacking momentum. A slick exchange between Dejan Kulusevski and Johnson in a crowded box ended with Johnson firing a precise low shot into the net to give Spurs the lead. Wolves appoint ex-Porto...

Premier League: Bournemouth boost their survival chances

AFC Bournemouth 1 - 0  Liverpool Mohamed Salah's awful penalty miss helped Bournemouth climb out of the relegation zone after an excellent win that damaged Liverpool's chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League. PL reaction: Liverpool 7 - 0 Manchester United Back down to earth with a bump Jurgen Klopp's were brought back down to earth after last week's 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United as the Cherries did their survival chances a power of good.
