Premier League: Wolves end winless run

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 - 1 Luton Town

Wolves ended their six-game winless run in the Premier League and increased the pressure on relegation-threatened Luton with a victory at Molineux.

Hwang Hee-chan scored his first club goal since December 27th to put Wolves in the lead late in the first half. At the start of the match, both sides struggled to find a way out of midfield, but the South Korean forward eventually netted with the help of a deflection off defender Teden Mengi just 18 seconds after Carlton Morris was unable to convert Luton's best opportunity of the opening 45 minutes, heading straight at Jose Sa.

Wolves showed their intent after the break and doubled their advantage in just five minutes when Toti Gomes found space to head in at the far post. Gary O'Neil's side dominated the second half, with Boubacar Traore, Nelson Semedo, and Rayan Ait-Nouri spurning good opportunities to make life even more comfortable.

Morris gave Luton hope of a grandstand finish when he volleyed in from six yards, but they could not find any further joy. The win moved Wolves up to 10th and three points behind eighth-placed West Ham. Meanwhile, Luton remained 18th and one point, plus a hefty goal difference deficit, shy of 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.

Wolves v Luton

"I'm starting to fear that we are going back down to the EFL.."

JT, a Luton Town who was in the away end at Wolves, said: "All the fans were frustrated with how we conceded the two goals. Of course, I am disappointed that we lost the game, but I did see some of the things that I had been asking for throughout the week. We all saw the elements of a good performance against a good Wolves team.

"We didn't give up, we kept pushing and we kept going. In terms of an away performance, especially considering how we were last week, there's a lot of good stuff for the players to take into the final three games. Despite that, I'm starting to fear that we are going back down to the EFL."

"We should have won by a bigger margin..."

Tony, a Wolves fan, added: "I am happy with the win and the team's overall performance. However, I am disappointed that we didn't manage to score more goals. We were in control at 2-0 and had several opportunities to score a third and fourth goal, but we failed to capitalise on them. We should have won by a bigger margin."
