From the stands - Wolves v Forest

The midfielder silenced the boos from the home crowd early on, scoring the opener just seven minutes in. Gibbs-White, who left Wolves for Forest in 2022, had the perfect response to his former club's jeers.

Chris Wood doubled the lead just before half-time, notching his 12th goal of the season, while Taiwo Awoniyi sealed the win in stoppage time, finishing off a swift counter-attack.

Wolves, however, had their opportunities. Joao Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen forced saves from Forest keeper Matz Sels, and Larsen was denied by a remarkable goal-line clearance from Murillo.

This marked Forest’s 12th league victory of the season—three more than their total for the entire previous campaign. The win showcased the team’s key strengths, with opposition sides continuing to struggle to contain them. Gibbs-White’s goal came from a blistering break, and Wood’s close-range finish was set up by superb wide play from Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Premier League: 2024/2025 season

Simple yet devastatingly effective, Forest’s ruthless efficiency is sure to have impressed Tuchel. Gibbs-White, who earned his first England cap in September, will undoubtedly be in contention for the squad for March's World Cup qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side remain third in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool, whom they face on 14 January. They sit level on points with second-placed Arsenal, trailing only on goal difference, after achieving six consecutive top-flight wins in a single season for the first time in 58 years.

This match marked Wolves’ first defeat under new manager Vitor Pereira, who replaced Gary O’Neil last month. Despite creating chances, Wolves were left to rue missed opportunities and Sels’ heroics, which kept them from pulling level before the break.

Wolves appoint ex-Porto boss Pereira to help with relegation battle

Reinforcements are clearly needed, with Wolves only outside the relegation zone on goal difference. The club is close to securing Reims centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou in a £16.6m deal, but the sight of 16-year-old Wes Okoduwa on the bench highlights their lack of depth and quality in key areas.

Forest fans express delight

Tommy, a huge Forest fan, told us: "The best counter-attacking team in the league delivered another impressive performance, supported by a solid effort from the entire squad. This was a fitting tribute to Mr. Clough on the 50th anniversary of his arrival."

Matthew added: "That result was the sign of a great side. The players don't have to go and dominate possession or create more chances. We seem to have our game plan ready and are possibly the best counter attacking team in the league."
