Image
Liverpool 2 - 2 Manchester United  Manchester United showcased a newfound fighting spirit under manager Ruben Amorim, earning a hard-fought point against Premier League leaders Liverpool. Author - Olivia T Desperate to avoid a fourth consecutive league defeat for the first time since 1979, United stunned Anfield by taking the lead on 52 minutes. Lisandro Martinez smashed the ball past Alisson with a thunderous finish, silencing the home crowd. Liverpool responded swiftly, levelling seven minutes later through Cody Gakpo’s brilliantly executed angled strike. The game then appeared to turn against United when Mohamed Salah converted a penalty with 20 minutes remaining, equalling Thierry Henry's Premier League tally of 175 goals. The spot-kick was awarded after a VAR review deemed Matthijs de Ligt guilty of handball. After all that, United refused to surrender. Burnley relinquish top spot after draw with Derby

Image
Derby County 0 - 0 Burnley Burnley relinquished top spot in a drab draw against an ever improving but still relegation-threatened Derby County. Author - Josh T Stadium - Pride Park The Clarets, now second in the table on goal difference after Leeds United's victory against Middlesbrough, started well and went close twice through the outstanding Zian Flemming. But the Rams, who move onto 42 points and remain out of the relegation zone, were resolute in defence and grew in confidence as the visitors faded. Jerry Yates nearly broke the deadlock. His shot was brilliantly saved by Burnley keeper James Trafford. Burnley knew they were definitely in a tense battle at this stage.  A tense and disjointed second period saw very little goalmouth action. Matt Clarke almost won it for the Rams in the second of eight minutes of added time, but he could not leap high enough to nod the ball home from two yards. Premier League; Chelsea ease to first win of the season

Image
Chelsea 3 - 0 Luton Town From a Chelsea perspective, the big team news before kick-off was the presence of Moises Caicedo in the starting line-up for his full debut. He replaced the injured Carney Chukwuemeka. As expected before the match, Chelsea dominated possession throughout the game. It didn’t take long for the Blues to find a way past the defence and force the first save. A loose ball followed a set-piece dropped toward Sterling but his fierce volley was well held by Thomas Kaminski. It wasn't long before Raheem Sterling gave Chelsea a deserved lead, weaving his way through the Hatters defence to score a fine solo goal. The Blues had to be patient before securing the emphatic scoreline that the home side's dominance deserved. This began with Sterling netting his second after half-time by turning in Malo Gusto's low cross. Jackson then scored Chelsea's third goal via a similar route, Sterling providing the ball for him to slide in. Ultimately, this proved to...

Fans voices: Why do we love football?

Image
A Manchester United tells us of his emotional connection to the club and why he is so frustrated with the current situation. This is the first article of our Fans Voice series. If you want to get involved, please message us on Twitter and we'll respond as soon as possible. My first United game was the last watched by the old Stretford End. We beat Tottenham 3-1 and was mesmerised by the sights and sounds. In the previous weeks, we had thrown away a lead at the top of old First Division and lost the title to Leeds United. My dad knew this would be my first game and thought it would be a title party, sadly he was mistaken. We only had to wait another year to finally clinch the title and we were both there as we celebrated winning the first-ever Premier League. I was slightly older so was able to appreciate things a bit more. Little did my and my dad know though but football was about to change forever. Domination but at what cost? Over the next six years, United would win everyth...

Image
Club Brugge 1 - 3 Aston Villa Aston Villa took control of their Champions League last-16 tie with a 3-1 victory over Club Brugge, capitalising on a late collapse from the Belgian side to gain an advantage ahead of next Wednesday’s second leg. Author - Jamie P Stadium - Jan Breydelstadion Pictures from the away end Brugge had looked the more composed team for much of the contest but were left to rue their own mistakes after conceding twice in the closing stages against an underwhelming Villa. The hosts’ downfall began when Brandon Mechele inadvertently turned Morgan Rogers’ cross into his own net. Just five minutes later, a careless challenge from Christos Tzolis on Matty Cash gifted Villa a penalty, which Marco Asensio confidently dispatched. The three-time Champions League winner has now scored three goals in his last two appearances for the club. How the match unfolded Leon Bailey gave Villa the perfect start, volleying home inside three minutes to put the visitors in front. ...

Fulham ease past Championship Watford

Image
Fulham 4 - 1 Watford Premier League side Fulham opened their FA Cup campaign in style, delivering a dominant performance to sweep aside second-tier Watford and book their place in the fourth round. Author - Craig H Despite a brief moment of magic from Watford’s Rocco Vata – whose stunning 30-yard strike levelled the score after Rodrigo Muniz’s 26th-minute opener – the home side were always in control at Craven Cottage. Fulham dominated possession and kept their Championship opponents pinned back for much of the game, creating far more chances in a confident display. Raul Jimenez, introduced at half-time, wasted no time in restoring Fulham’s lead. The Mexican striker rifled a penalty into the top corner after Adama Traore was brought down just inside the box. Defender Joachim Andersen added a third with an excellent finish from a corner, smashing home a volley after his initial shot was blocked. Fulham’s dominance was capped off in the closing minutes when Timothy Castagne nodded in...

Best reaction as Chelsea thrash Southampton

Image
Southampton 1 - 5 Chelsea Jadon Sancho opened his Chelsea account as the Blues took full advantage of Southampton's mistakes to secure what proved to be a commanding victory. Author - Lauren W Sancho rounded off the scoring after goals from Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke, and Cole Palmer had already put Chelsea firmly in the driving seat. The home side briefly levelled at 1-1 through Joe Aribo but their capacity to self-destruct was underlined again. Not long after falling 3-1 down, captain Jack Stephens was sent off or pulling Marc Cucurella's hair. Views from the away end Some analysis from me: "I would ultimately describe that as a competent performance overall, but the defence still needs improvement. Some of our player give the ball away too often, and they were caught out by Southampton multiple times early in the match. To 'dominate' the Premier League, we need a settled team with our best players consistently on the pitch." Lewis W a...

Premier League: Entertaining draw at Emirates Stadium

Image
Arsenal 2 - 2 Fulham Fulham earned a point at Arsenal thanks to Joao Palhinha. His first-time finish from a corner in the 87th minute earned the away side this draw.  The away side had Calvin Bassey sent off four minutes before that equaliser after he fouled Eddie Nketiah on the counter-attack. Before 3pm, the Emirates stadium was loud and boisterous before the match kicked off. However, that noise became an almost baffled silence.  Andreas Pereira got Fulham off to a flying start, scoring after just 57 seconds. He latched onto a loose ball from Bukayo Saka and fired in a curling shot with the Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale out of position. After Fabio Vieira was caught by Kenny Tete, Saka equalized from the penalty spot for the Gunners. Nketiah then scored Arsenal's second as they came from behind to take the lead , before Fulham had the final say.  As Fulham fans celebrated at the end of the match, Arsenal fans were perhaps slightly concerned that they are...
