Luton Town: 2023/2024 Season Review

We are now going to explore Luton Town's 2023/2024 season.

The 2023–24 season was the 138th season in the history of Luton Town and their first-ever season in the Premier League.

It was also the club's first return to the top flight of English football since the 1991–92 season.

Despite a decent effort throughout the season, Luton were relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the season following a 4–2 home loss to Fulham. Ultimately, the damage had been done in the weeks leading up to the last match of their league campaign.

A look at some of the key moments from their season

In August, they lost to a seemingly disjointed Chelsea side 3-0. Despite losing comfortably, their fans remained defiant. At the end of that match, European Super Football spoke to Frank who was in the away end at Stamford Bridge. He said: "We have seen improvement in the two weeks since the Brighton match. We are also really proud of the players. In the end, it came down to a few individual moments. During the match, you could argue that we competed well, and I am excited about how we will progress this season."

After the same match, Jamie added: "You could see from the away end that we worked so hard but lack the quality to compete against the Premier League's best this season. I still think we can do well against the sides in the bottom six."

In November, they earned what they thought could be a vital against Crystal Palace. This was a team, at the time, that they thought could be in a relegation battle with them. You can see some highlights from that match in the video below. The footage is from the Luton Town YouTube account.

One of their worst performances came against Sheffield United in February. This is when fans of the club started to be concerned about their Premier League future. Jamie, a Luton fan who went to this match, said: "I'd started to get worried that we were getting too carried away. First of all, I would have to give huge credit to Sheffield United, they were superb from the first minute of the match. I did think we had the chance to get back in the game. At 2-1, it felt certain we would equalise and then kick on. We didn't."

Several months later, Jamie told us: "That was the match when I figured out that we probably didn't have what it takes to survive in this toughest of leagues."

After their 5-1 defeat against Brentford, relegation appeared like it was a certainty. This time Paul, another Luton fan, messaged us this on Facebook: "I've been a loyal supporter of this for 40 years now, and I must say, I can't recall a more disappointing performance. Honestly, if it hadn't been for our goalkeeper Kaminski, we would have been looking at a much heavier defeat. I'm stunned."
