Premier League: United start with a tense win

Image
Manchester United 1 - 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers It was a better start for United than last season, but this was unconvincing on their first match of the season.  Raphael Varane secured the decisive goal with just 14 minutes remaining, propelling Manchester United to a somewhat lucky victory.  Until Bruno Fernandes' brilliant pass set up Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the penalty area, Erik ten Hag's team struggled to create meaningful scoring opportunities. With composure, the right-back skillfully lofted the ball that was bouncing unpredictably towards the outskirts of the six-yard box. It was at this juncture that Varane's superior height came into play, allowing him to outjump Nelson Semedo and elegantly direct a header into the net. Premier League: Man United held at home

Manchester United 0 - 0 Southampton Manchester United suffered a frustrating 0-0 draw against Southampton at Old Trafford, after Casemiro was sent off in the first half. The Brazilian midfielder was given his marching orders for a challenge on Carlos Alcaraz. Referee Anthony Taylor initially held up a yellow card, before a VAR check persuaded him it was serious foul play. The home side's best chance of the game fell to Bruno Fernandes. His curling effort forced Saints goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu to make a great save to force it onto the post. United Review: Reds held against Southampton  David De Gea’s heroics helped to keep the game goalless. He first denied Theo Walcott in the first half with an incredible reflex save from close range.  United started off with a series of quick counterattacks. The best of those came when Antony tried to find the run of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the right-back’s cross was easily dealt with by the opposition defence.  The away side managed to create

Premier League: Man United and Leeds United produce a classic

Image
Manchester United 2 - 2 Leeds United Man United fought their way back from being two goals down to take a point against Leeds United at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford and substitute Jadon Sancho levelled Wilfried Gnonto’s first-minute strike and Raphael Varane’s own goal to move Erik ten Hag’s men three points ahead of Newcastle United in the Premier League table. The Reds got back into the game after a difficult 60 minutes. They recovered from the deficit with well-worked counter-attacks and a never-say-die attitude, epitomised by Luke Shaw, who was instrumental in Sancho’s goal to level the clash. After that, United dominated. The Leeds goal lived a charmed life at times. Fred and Fernandes missed efforts that could have brought the Old Trafford house down. Instead, Leeds held out for five minutes of stoppage time, doing well to kill our momentum on occasion, and will be the more pleased of the two sides with the outcome. What will happen when the sides meet again on Sunday? Highl

Premier League: Spurs pick up first victory under new manager

Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 0 Manchester United Manchester United's first away match in the new Premier League season led to their first defeat. Tottenham overcame a poor first-half performance to secure a 2-0 victory. Pape Sarr's goal and Lisandro Martinez's unintended own-goal resulted in Tottenham's victory.  There was an argument that Erik ten Hag's squad were better than their 1-0 win against Wolves at Old Trafford. Particularly in the opening 45 minutes, their attacking intent was evident as Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and the recent match-winner Raphael Varane all came close to scoring. Spurs rallied after half-time.This game marked their return to home turf after the departure of top scorer and captain Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.  In addition to their two goals, new goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario played a substantial role in this Spurs win. Manchester United also had reason to wonder about a VAR review that ruled out a potentia

He is now Erik ten Hag's fifth-choice central defender behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, and even Luke Shaw. As Euro 2024 approaches at the end of this season , England boss Gareth Southgate has told Maguire he needs to play more frequently to remain in the squad. PL: Awful United outclassed by City

Image
Manchester City 4 - 1 Manchester United Manchester United were completely outclassed by Manchester City as the home side maintained control of the Premier League title race with an outstanding display.  City stays six points clear of Liverpool, having played one game more. UEFA Nations League: Denmark stun France

France 1 - 2 Denmark Andreas Cornelius scored twice as Denmark came from behind to beat holders France in the Nations League. Karim Benzema opened the scoring with a stunning effort. He cut in from the right-wing before dummying his way past three defenders and slotting in. Cornelius volleyed in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's ball over the top to level. The 60th-minute substitute won the game when he ran onto a long ball before firing in. This was the first time the former Cardiff striker has scored twice in an international game. What a time to do it! Denmark look like a team that are on the rise. It will be interesting to see them progress over the next few years. Both sides had several chances in a lively opening game to group A1. In the first half, Denmark's Joakim Maehle hit the outside of the post and Benzema had a goal disallowed. In between Cornelius' two goals, France's N'Golo Kante crashed a shot off the post and Denmark's Christian Eriksen forced a save
