Premier League: Spurs pick up first victory under new manager

Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 0 Manchester United

Manchester United's first away match in the new Premier League season led to their first defeat.

Match report: Spurs 2 - 0 Manchester United

Tottenham overcame a poor first-half performance to secure a 2-0 victory. Pape Sarr's goal and Lisandro Martinez's unintended own-goal resulted in Tottenham's victory.

There was an argument that Erik ten Hag's squad were better than their 1-0 win against Wolves at Old Trafford. Particularly in the opening 45 minutes, their attacking intent was evident as Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and the recent match-winner Raphael Varane all came close to scoring.

Spurs rallied after half-time.This game marked their return to home turf after the departure of top scorer and captain Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

In addition to their two goals, new goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario played a substantial role in this Spurs win. Manchester United also had reason to wonder about a VAR review that ruled out a potential penalty during the early stages when the score was still level at 0-0.

The best fan reaction

Liam, a Manchester Season Ticket holder, told us: " I don't what is happening with this team at the minute. We need to find the correct balance in the side.In terms of priorities, we need to get a proper number nine and to get Rashford back on that left hand side. Another defensive midfielder could prove to be important as well."

Kallum, another United fan, added: "That own goal from Martinez summed up our performance in the second-half. We also lacked movement and intelligence in the final third."

Greg, a Spurs fan from Yorkshire, told us: "I've yearned for this version of Tottenham. It's refreshing to see that the team isn't constantly overshadowed by Kane anymore. While we certainly feel Kane's absence, I believe the players will approach the rest of this season more positively."

Frank, another Spurs fan, added: "We deserved it, you can't say we didn't. The whole team and the manager were excellent. I am now really excited about the rest of this season."
