Transfer Rumour: Man United interested in Trevoh Chalobah

Another day and another Manchester United transfer rumour

Manchester United are considering a move for Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah as they evaluate their centre-back options for next season.

Injuries in this position have been a major issue for Erik ten Hag over the past year, and the departure of Raphael Varane has further weakened the squad’s central defence.

Chelsea are reportedly open to selling Chalobah and Connor Gallagher to comply with profit and sustainability rules by 30 June. They are looking for a transfer fee of around £25m.

United are contemplating a bid, though any action will be part of a broader overhaul of their recruitment strategy this summer. The new Ineos-led football management sees player trading as a crucial area for improvement at Old Trafford, following a series of poor decisions that have resulted in an overpaid and bloated squad.

United aspire to adopt the strategies of successful clubs by primarily signing players under the age of 25, who have greater potential for development and are better suited to modern pressing demands. Chalobah would generally fit this profile, although he turns 25 in July.

Chalobah has played 80 times for Chelsea, scoring 5 times. He has also spent time on loan at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Lorient.

What are the fans saying?

Liam, a Manchester United fan Season Ticket holder, told us: "This would be a decent addition to the squad. I'd argue that we need at least another centre-back, even if we sign Chalobah."

Olivia Taylor, a Manchester United from Chorlton, said: "Injuries in our defence have been a significant problem for Erik ten Hag over the past year. The departure of Raphael Varane and the frequent injuries to Martinez have left our central defence weakened throughout the season. I believe we need to sign a few players in this position."

It looks like Chelsea fans want him to stay
