Is Julen Lopetegui moving to London? It has been reported that Julen Lopetegui has agreed to become the next manager of West Ham at the end of the season. Update - It has now been announced that David Moyes will definitely leave the club at the end of the season. While nothing has been finalised, the 57-year-old is close to making a return to management after leaving Wolves in August of last year. The current West Ham manager, David Moyes, has started mounting pressure due to a poor run of results. The Hammers have won only one of their last nine Premier League games, and were eliminated from the quarter-finals of the Europa League. They were recently thrashed 5-0 by Chelsea on Sunday, leaving them ninth in the table. Moyes has repeatedly fended off questions about his future at the club, but it has now been confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of the current campaign.  The former Spain and Real Madrid coach, Lopetegui, has been linked with several jobs since...

West Ham United 0 - 5 Liverpool  Liverpool stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points as they thrashed an abject West Ham United at the London Stadium Author - William G Liverpool could have been out of sight early on, squandering several chances before Luis Díaz finally broke the deadlock with a powerful strike on the half-hour mark. Cody Gakpo doubled the lead 10 minutes later, capitalising on Mohamed Salah’s mesmerising footwork, and the Egyptian himself got in on the act with a precise low drive just before half-time – his 20th goal in a remarkable season. West Ham, under Julen Lopetegui, failed to even contain the damage. Trent Alexander-Arnold made it 4-0 nine minutes after the restart, his long-range shot deflecting off Max Kilman to leave Alphonse Areola helpless. For the hosts, only Mohammed Kudus showed any sign of resistance, striking the woodwork in both halves, while Luis Guilherme also hit the frame of the goal late on. However, these f...

Newcastle United 0 - 2 West Ham United Tomas Soucek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were on target as West Ham claimed an impressive victory over Newcastle, easing the pressure on manager Julen Lopetegui. The Spanish coach, who succeeded David Moyes in the summer, had struggled to find consistency, with the Hammers managing just three wins in their opening 11 games. Author - William G from GMCR Football This eye-catching result, however, will boost belief among the club's fans that Lopetegui can steer the team in the right direction. Premier League: Wolves edge closer to safety

Image
Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 - 0 Crystal Palace Wolves gave their survival hopes a massive lift with what turned out to be a fairly comfortable win over Palace. In a match that was low on clear-cut chances, Wolves went in front after three minutes when Ruben Neves' corner bounced off the knee of Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen and in off the crossbar. A slightly nervy affair was settled by Neves' stoppage-time penalty as Wolves, who were bottom of the table when Lopetegui took charge in November, moved nine points clear of the relegation zone. This surely means survival for the home side.  Premier League news (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Albert Sambi Lokonga came closest to providing a Palace equaliser before half-time but his snap-shot from eight yards out was saved by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa. Image
Brentford 1 - 1 West Ham United Tomas Soucek's second-half goal secured a point for West Ham against Brentford after Bryan Mbeumo netted a lightning-fast opener for the hosts within the first minute. For the third consecutive Premier League match, Brentford scored in under 60 seconds, with Mbeumo expertly curling a volley beyond Alphonse Areola's reach. Despite the early setback, West Ham maintained a positive approach, dominating the chances in the first half. Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, and Mohammed Kudus all had opportunities, though only Kudus managed to test the keeper. Brentford, after their early burst, seemed content to sit back and absorb the pressure. Their next significant effort came in the 34th minute when Mbeumo headed over the bar. West Ham’s persistence paid off shortly after the break. Soucek, drafted into the starting line-up to replace the suspended Edson Alvarez, capitalised on a loose ball and calmly slotted home from close range. Premier League: 202...

Manchester City looking to boost Champions League hopes

Image
Manchester City v West Ham United preview Manchester City kick off their 2025 Premier League campaign with a home fixture against a struggling West Ham United side. Author - Macca The reigning champions have endured a tough spell, winning just one of their previous 13 games across all competitions before last weekend’s trip to the King Power Stadium. However, they managed a much-needed, albeit scrappy, win in the East Midlands, with Savinho playing a starring role.  On paper, a visit from West Ham might seem like a straightforward task for Pep Guardiola’s side, but City’s recent form at the Etihad has been anything but convincing. They’ve managed just one win in their last five home matches and were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Everton in their most recent outing on home soil. As for West Ham, their form had been on the up before a humbling 5-0 defeat to league leaders Liverpool halted their progress. Head coach Julen Lopetegui had been under less pressure in recent weeks,...

Their advantage was doubled in the 27th minute through Leandro Trossard, who finished off a flowing team move. Saka, once again the architect, was played in by Martin Odegaard’s clever chipped-through ball before squaring it perfectly for Trossard to tap home. What followed was a chaotic six-minute spell that saw four goals fly in. Odegaard made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Lucas Paquetá brought down Saka in the box. Just minutes later, Kai Havertz pounced on a defensive error by Max Kilman, racing through to slot past a stranded Łukasz Fabiański and put Arsenal 4-0 up. More news from t...

Premier League: Brighton win but positives to take for Wolves

Image
Wolves 2 - 3 Brighton & Hove Albion There was an absolute Premier League cracker in the Midlands. On the day former Spain and Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui was announced as their next manager, Wolves showed battling qualities as they played the second-half a man down following Nelson Semedo's red card just before half-time. A pulsating opening period saw Wolves respond to falling behind to a rare Adam Lallana goal with Goncalo Guedes and a Ruben Neves penalty putting them 2-1 up. However, they then conceded an equaliser a minute from Japan international Kaoru Mitoma before the break. Semedo's dismissal for a foul on Mitoma shortly afterwards then drastically changed the dynamic of the contest. Winger Mitoma was a pivotal figure in the game and it was his run into the box that created the opportunity for Gross' winner.  After often being accused of wastefulness in front of goal, Brighton have now scored 7 goals in two matches and they look a threat every time the...
