PL: Everton boost survival hopes

Image
Everton 1 - 0 Manchester United Everton picked up a priceless victory in their battle to avoid relegation as a poor Manchester United were beaten. The Toffees were plunged into crisis when they lost at fellow strugglers Burnley in midweek to leave them facing the prospect of dropping into the bottom three this weekend if results went against them. In a game low on quality but high in tension, Everton's victory came courtesy of Anthony Gordon's 27th-minute drive, which took a heavy deflection off United captain Harry Maguire to leave keeper David de Gea wrong-footed. Everton keeper Jordan Pickford made two early saves from Marcus Rashford and a vital late block from Cristiano Ronaldo. However, there was rarely any sense of siege as United lacked urgency. They failed to break through. This was another blow to their hopes of making the Champions League. You can watch the highlights of the match in the video below. PL: Chelsea 1 - 1 Everton

Image
Chelsea missed a chance to close the gap on leaders Manchester City as a depleted Everton side earned a fantastic point. Mason Mount gave Chelsea a deserved lead after 70 minutes. The England midfielder placed a calm finish past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford following Reece James' pass. A very interesting evening at Stamford Bridge Everton shocked the European champions by equalising four minutes later. The 19-year-old defender Jarrad Branthwaite converted at the back post after Anthony Gordon's free-kick. Chelsea carried on having the chances to win it but the winning goal never came. Thiago Silva had a great opportunity but saw his powerful header superbly saved by Pickford. It was an impressive performance from the England international as he also kept out attempts from Christian Pulisic, James, Jorginho and Mount when the score was 0-0. He has come in for some criticism this season from Everton fans and beyond. Any questions about his ability were answered tonight ...

Nations League: Scotland hold Portugal

Image
Scotland 0 - 0 Portugal Author - Sean M Scotland put on a determined defensive performance to hold Portugal to a 0-0 draw, earning their first point in the Nations League A campaign. Scott McTominay had a golden opportunity early on but missed, and from there, the Scots saw little of the ball as Portugal pressed hard for a breakthrough. Cristiano Ronaldo, making his 200th international appearance, was left frustrated in his pursuit of a 134th goal for Portugal, as Scotland’s goalkeeper Craig Gordon and his defence stood their ground. While the result means Steve Clarke’s team have now won just one of their last 16 matches, they avoided the unwanted record of becoming the first Scotland side to lose five consecutive games. A more detailed look at what happened in Glasgow After a tough time at the Euros and a difficult Nations League campaign so far , Scotland needed to lift the Hampden crowd, and they nearly did just that within the first four minutes. EFL Cup: Chelsea progress on penalties to beat Newcastle

Image
Chelsea 1 - 1 Newcastle United (Chelsea win 4-2 on penalties) Kieran Trippier had a nightmarish experience at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea secured a spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals through a penalty shootout. Despite Callum Wilson's 16th-minute goal appearing to propel Newcastle into the last four, substitute Mykhailo Mudryk seized on the veteran defender's mistake deep into stoppage time, leading to the match heading to penalties. Trippier, who has recently struggled with a dip in form, widened Newcastle's second penalty, and with keeper Djordje Petrovic saving Matt Ritchie's spot-kick, Chelsea transitioned from the brink of defeat to the joy of reaching the semi-finals. It was a harsh outcome for Trippier, a key figure under manager Eddie Howe, whose moment of indecision on a header provided Chelsea with the lifeline Mudryk capitalized on. Chelsea's Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Christopher Nkunku, and Mudryk all scored in the shootout, while only Callum Wils...

Image
Watford 0-0 Everton A much-changed Watford side earned a 0-0 draw against Everton. In a poor game, Chances were few and far between for both teams throughout. Samuel Kalu and Moussa Sissoko were among those most likely to break the deadlock in yellow. A point against the Toffees marks the end of an 11-game losing streak at home for Watford, who have already been relegated to the Championship. Due to several injuries, manager Roy Hodgson was forced to make several changes to the starting eleven that had lined up at Crystal Palace last time out. Euro 2024: England name final squad for Germany

England have confirmed their 26-man squad for the European Championships Gareth Southgate has revealed his final 26-man squad, and some notable names are missing. Burnley's goalkeeper James Trafford, Liverpool's defender Jarell Quansah, Everton's defender Jarrad Branthwaite, and Liverpool's midfielder Curtis Jones, who were part of the initial 33-player shortlist, have also not made the cut.
