Nuno Espirito Santo’s side continues to capture the imagination with their impressive performances, emerging as one of the season’s biggest surprises and threatening to shake up the established order at the top of the league.

With Arsenal not playing until Wednesday, Forest’s victory at Goodison Park ensured they ended the day in second place, behind league leaders Liverpool, who stormed to a 5-0 win over West Ham to extend their lead to eight points.

Chris Wood played a pivotal role in both of Forest’s goals, scoring his 11th league goal of the season with a sublime finish before setting up Morgan Gibbs-White for a composed second-half strike.

Wood had already given Everton’s defence a couple of warnings—first with a long-range volley that went wide and then with a header over the bar. However, he made no mistake when he combined headers with Anthony Elanga, lofting the ball over a stranded Jordan Pickford for the opener.

Everton, starting Armando Broja for the first time, struggled to create meaningful chances. Broja showed flashes of skill on the edge of the box but shot wide, while Ramon Sosa missed a golden opportunity to double Forest’s lead before half-time, sending his effort past the post after being played through.

Forest sealed the win just after the hour mark when captain Gibbs-White cut inside and fired home, ensuring his side finished the year as Liverpool’s nearest challengers in the title race at the halfway point of the season.

Forest fans proud of their team

Kieran said: "I am incredibly proud of the manager and players. Together with our amazing fans, we are united in our goals. I've been a Nottingham Forest supporter since 1976, and I haven't experienced this level of togetherness since the days of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor. With our owner, manager, players, and fans all on the same page, we can dare to dream again. Champions League or even Europa League football at The City Ground next season would be amazing."

Charlotte added: "To be honest, I'm just happy we are now safe from relegation. From here, anything else is a bonus. I am so proud of everyone associated with the club at the moment. We have come a long way together."
