Originally scheduled for December, the 245th edition of this iconic clash was postponed due to Storm Darragh. In hindsight, that delay may have been a blessing for Everton.

Now under the leadership of David Moyes—who returned to the club last month—the Toffees look revitalised and better equipped to challenge their high-flying rivals, who remain in pole position in the Premier League title race.

This will be tbe 120th time Everton have hosted Liverpool at this famous old stadium. There's also the added intrigue that both sides have each won 41 matches at the ground. winner on Wednesday will tip the scales in the favour of either club.

Both sides aldo go into the match having being knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend.

More history of this iconic derby

Everton claimed victory in the first-ever Goodison Park derby, and they will be eager to mark the final one with another triumph—one that would see them pull ahead of Liverpool in total home wins.

Across 119 meetings at Goodison, the Toffees have scored 141 goals, while the Reds have netted 147. Despite Liverpool’s dominance in the 21st century, Goodison Park has often proved a tough venue for them.

Of the last 12 league derbies at the ground, nine have ended in draws, with Liverpool winning twice and Everton securing a single but memorable victory—a 2-0 triumph last season that derailed Jürgen Klopp’s title challenge.

You can watch some of the best bits from last season's memorable derby in the video below. The footage is from the Everton YouTube account.

Everton can cause a shock

James L, an Everton fan told us: " We have every reason to believe we can get the better of Liverpool in this final Goodison derby. Under David Moyes, there’s a renewed sense of discipline and fight—qualities that have historically unsettled our rivals.

"Goodison under the lights is often special when the fans are behind the players. This atmosphere alone can rattle even the best sides. Liverpool’s form may be strong, but we’ve seen them struggle here before. Last season’s 2-0 win showed we can go toe-to-toe with them. If we stay organised, press aggressively, and take our chances, there’s no reason why we can’t make history on Wednesday night."
