Bournemouth 2 - 1 Manchester City: Home fans celebrate

Semenyo opened the scoring for Bournemouth within the first 10 minutes, skilfully turning and firing in from the centre of the box to the far post. Evanilson then extended their lead shortly after half-time.

Josko Gvardiol pulled one back for City with a stunning header at the back post in the 82nd minute, setting the stage for a dramatic finale. Erling Haaland was twice thwarted, first by a brilliant save from Bournemouth’s keeper Mark Travers and then by the post with his rebound, but Bournemouth held their ground to secure a historic victory.

City now slip to second, missing the chance to capitalise on Arsenal's earlier stumble, while Bournemouth climb to eighth.

A closer look at what happened

The Cherries, buoyed by recent form after taking four points from their last two games against Aston Villa and Arsenal, started brightly and on the front foot.

City’s Ederson was called into action just two minutes in, making a double save to deny Semenyo and Justin Kluivert. With the tempo set, Bournemouth kept up the high press and were rewarded in the ninth minute when Milos Kerkez's cut-back from the byline was finished off by Semenyo.

It was a frustrating first half for City, who failed to register a single shot on target. Bournemouth came out in the second half full of confidence and nearly doubled their lead within the first minute, but Ederson was quick off his line to deny Evanilson.

Evanilson made no mistake with his next chance, sliding in to meet Kerkez's low cross and tucking it neatly into the bottom corner. Bournemouth almost made it three moments later, but Adam Smith fired over an open goal after Marcus Tavernier’s shot rebounded off the post.

City’s first shot on target came in the 80th minute—a tame volley from Erling Haaland, who struggled to get any power behind it. Just two minutes later, Josko Gvardiol nodded one past Mark Travers, offering a glimmer of hope, but the champions couldn’t find an equaliser.

In a dramatic final moment, Haaland thought he’d rescued a point, but his close-range effort was saved on the line, and his rebound struck the post.
