The forward broke the deadlock in the 75th minute, turning in from close range after Illia Zabarnyi had steered a corner across goal. He doubled the lead late on with a crisp finish from the edge of the box, drilling the ball inside the near post to confirm the win.

Andoni Iraola’s side, who fell short in their push for European football following a dip in form during the run-in, dominated for long periods. Leicester, meanwhile, ended a dismal season with yet another defensive lapse and now prepare for life back in the Championship.

There was a false dawn for the visitors in the first half when Oliver Skipp tucked away a Kasey McAteer cross, only for the goal to be chalked off for offside earlier in the move.

VAR played its part at both ends. Conor Coady avoided a red card after tangling with Evanilson on the edge of the area, while Bournemouth had a goal ruled out when Daniel Jebbison’s effort, after a Semenyo cross, was disallowed as the ball had gone out of play.

Leicester never looked like threatening a comeback, and Semenyo’s late double offered a deserved reward for Bournemouth’s control and intent.

Bournemouth fan reaction

Paul: "A comfortable win in the end against a very poor Leicester side. Tyler Adams was a rock in midfield again. It’s been a great season overall, although we need to turn the Vitality back into a fortress. Those defeats to Wolves, Brentford and Ipswich late on really hurt us. Hopefully we don’t lose too many players, but recruitment has been excellent in recent years. I’m already looking forward to next season."

Ian: "Matching our highest ever Premier League finish with our best points tally was a fantastic achievement. With seven first-team players injured for most of the campaign, they did incredibly well and I couldn’t be prouder. I’ve supported Bournemouth since I was three years old and I’m 62 now. This current side is the best I’ve seen, not counting the years when Ted MacDougall was playing. Well done, lads, you were superb. I still believe you’ll get into Europe one day. Keep the faith!"
