Bournemouth climbed above Tottenham in the Premier League table after defender Dean Huijsen's solitary goal secured victory at the Vitality Stadium.

Huijsen capitalised on poor marking to nod in Marcus Tavernier's inswinging corner at the back post after just 17 minutes.

Huijsen’s goal highlighted Spurs' ongoing struggles with set-pieces, leaving manager Ange Postecoglou shaking his head in frustration on the touchline.

Tottenham had started brightly, with Dominic Solanke making his mark on his return to Bournemouth following a £65m summer move. However, the former Cherries striker, greeted with scattered boos from the home fans, saw two early efforts fail to make an impact.

After Huijsen’s opener, Spurs struggled to regain control, while Bournemouth came close to doubling their lead through Tavernier and Evanilson before half-time.

Postecoglou brought on captain Son Heung-min for Pape Matar Sarr after the break, sparking a more attacking spell for Spurs. Chances fell to James Maddison, Pedro Porro, and Dejan Kulusevski, but they couldn’t find the back of the net.

As Tottenham pressed for an equaliser, they also left themselves vulnerable at the back. Evanilson saw a late goal ruled out for offside, and Bournemouth held firm to secure the win.

The result lifted Bournemouth to ninth in the table, one spot above Spurs. To compound the visitors’ woes, Ben Davies limped off with what looked like a hamstring injury, leaving Postecoglou with just one fit centre-back ahead of their match with Chelsea.

My view as a Spurs fan as we were frustrated again

As a Spurs fan, I am frustrated with this performance. We put on such a good display against Manchester City but these are the matches we always seem to struggle in. It's not good enough. After they scored, we kind of lost our way and allowed Bournemouth to play the game that they wanted to. We had our moments in the second half but we could not get a goal.

Jennie, a Bournemouth fan, gave some in-depth analysis of the match. She said: "At home, we will always be a strong force. We press high and focus on our game, regardless of who our opponent is. The crowd supports us, and our mentality is at its best. It was frustrating that we had a few good chances, especially at the end, but we didn't score. Against teams like this, we need to finish stronger. However, credit goes to our defenders, who performed so well at the other end. What a great win."

Tommy, a fellow Bournemouth fan, stated, "We have an abundance of exciting players. The club has excelled in recruiting top talent, and we have plenty of options available to come off the bench as well. The club is definitely making progress, especially with a new training ground in development. We just need to keep pushing forward."
