EFL Cup: Salford City shock Leeds

Salford City 1 - 1 Leeds United  Salford City won 9-8 on penalties To reach the third round of the Carabao Cup, League Two Salford City stunned Championship side Leeds with an epic penalty shootout win. Ossama Ashley scored at the second attempt after Karl Darlow saved his initial effort, but the keeper was adjudged to have come off his line. The fourth-tier side ultimately won 9-8 on penalties. Former Leeds striker Matt Smith powered home a header from 10 yards before the break to give the hosts the lead against the run of play. After Salford failed to clear a free-kick, Pascal Struijk scored an equaliser for the away side, who also hit the woodwork with Crysencio Summerville and Sam Greenwood, but the Ammies won out on spot-kicks to reach the third round in the competition. Connor McLennan had the chance to win it in the first five penalties, but his effort hit the crossbar after ex-Leeds keeper Alex Cairns saved Georginio Rutter's tame effort. Salford earn comfortable win against Notts County

Salford City 3 - 0 Notts County Salford made it two home wins on the bounce with a composed display that saw them ease past Notts County. Author - Sophie T Conor McAleny opened the scoring, capitalising on a defensive blunder, before Cole Stockton netted twice – one in each half – to secure a dominant victory for the Ammies. Notts County had an early chance to take the lead after just 10 minutes when Alassana Jatta broke through on goal, but Salford keeper Matty Young stood his ground to produce a crucial save. The breakthrough came four minutes later, courtesy of a costly error from visiting goalkeeper Alex Bass. He misplaced a pass straight to Ossama Ashley, who teed up McAleny to calmly slot home. Salford City avoided an FA Cup upset as they narrowly beat side Dagenham and Redbridge Salford took a third-minute lead when Jordan Turnbull powerfully headed in from a left-wing corner. The scoreline remained at 1-0 and the League Two side are now just one game away from a potential match against the likes of Manchester United. Who will Gary Neville support if the team he co-owns faces the team he spent his entire career at? They have never made it into the third round of the FA Cup, also losing in the second round in 2015-16. So further progress would mean history from the club.
