Salford made it two home wins on the bounce with a composed display that saw them ease past Notts County.

Conor McAleny opened the scoring, capitalising on a defensive blunder, before Cole Stockton netted twice – one in each half – to secure a dominant victory for the Ammies.

Notts County had an early chance to take the lead after just 10 minutes when Alassana Jatta broke through on goal, but Salford keeper Matty Young stood his ground to produce a crucial save.

The breakthrough came four minutes later, courtesy of a costly error from visiting goalkeeper Alex Bass. He misplaced a pass straight to Ossama Ashley, who teed up McAleny to calmly slot home.

McAleny then turned provider, showcasing clever footwork with a backheel to Stockton, who smashed the ball past Bass to double Salford’s lead on 31 minutes.

Salford’s dominance was underlined shortly after the break. Kelly Nmai cut in from the left and saw his effort parried by Bass, but Stockton was perfectly placed to slot the rebound into the net, marking his seventh goal of the season and sealing a comprehensive win.

Salford can start looking towards the top 7

Despite some inconsistent performances this season, Salford fans and players can start looking up the table. They are 4 points off the playoff spots and have a game in Grimsby Town, the team currently in 7th position. Gary Neville and the class of 92 will be quietly confident as they start to prepare for their upcoming FA Cup match against Manchester City.

More analysis of Notts County

It has almost been a similar story for Notts County during this campaign. They are a place above Salford and if they improve over the next few games, they can maybe start looking towards a push towards the playoffs.  A few fans have been critical of their performances but it's probably worth remembering that, like Salford, they were struggling in the National League a few years ago.
