Nottingham Forest boss Nuno signs new deal

Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo has signed a new three-year deal at the City Ground. The Portuguese guided the club to seventh in the league last season to qualify for Europe for the first time since 95/96. Author | Kieran M Nuno replaced Steve Cooper in December 2023 and kept Forest up, the club surviving on the final day of the 2023-24 season. They suffered a four-point deduction for breaching profit and sustainability rules but finished 17th. Last season, Nottingham Forest was the surprise package as they competed for Champions League spots, remaining in the top four for most of the campaign. However, they fell out of contention after winning only two of their last seven games, although they did qualify for the Europa Conference League play-off stage. The visitors could have taken a 3-0 lead within the first 15 minutes, having created a trio of excellent chances. Emmanuel Dennis and Anthony Elanga both forced saves from Chesterfield's goalkeeper, Ryan Boot, while Nicolas Dominguez hit the post with a shot from the edge of the area. Forest believed they had taken the lead just before the half-hour mark, but Dennis was adjudged to have fouled Boot when heading in a free-kick, and the goal was disallowed.
