Transfer News: Manchester United sign Rasmus Hojlund

Image
Another new signing for Manchester United The £72m (£64 million plus 8 million of add-ons) signing of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta has been completed by the club. Having joined the Serie A side in 2022, the 20-year-old scored 10 goals in 34 appearances last season. After suffering a small injury during pre-season training with Atalanta, Hojlund will miss the beginning of the 2023-24 season. United kick off the campaign against Wolves on Monday 14th August. This means United will probably start the season with Rashford playing in that more central role.  He was presented to the United fans before their friendly win against Lens. Before Manchester United's friendly with Lens, which ended in a 3-1 victory for the Red Devils, Hojlund received a rapturous reception when he walked out of the players' tunnel. As a result of his presence, a Danish TV crew flew in to cover the event. Last week, Manchester Super News explored the potential impact of the new signing:  Football News:

Premier League: Man United end campaign with a win

Brighton & Hove Albion 0 - 2 Manchester United Rasmus Hojlund and Diogo Dalot helped Manchester United  conclude  their league campaign with a 2-0 victory over Brighton. Despite the win, Erik ten Hag's side finished the campaign in eighth place – their lowest top-flight position since 1989-90. Brighton, on the other hand, couldn't provide the perfect send-off for departing boss Roberto De Zerbi, despite having better chances and dominating possession. Adam Webster and Joao Pedro came closest to putting the Seagulls ahead in the first half, but neither had the clinical edge to beat Andre Onana. Brighton  were  left ruing missed opportunities when Dalot slotted past Jason Steele in the 73rd  minute,  before substitute Hojlund secured the three points two minutes before the end of normal time. The Seagulls ended the season in 11th place, missing out on the top half by a single point. Manchester United entered the final day knowing they needed a better result than Newcast

Caicedo earns Chelsea draw

Manchester United 1 - 1 Chelsea Moises Caicedo’s precise volley secured Chelsea a well-earned point against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Author - Liam C United’s interim manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is filling in as the club awaits the arrival of new head coach Ruben Amorim, looked on course for a second straight win when Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, following a foul on Rasmus Hojlund by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Van Nistelrooy celebrated wildly on the touchline , but United’s joy was short-lived, lasting only four minutes before Caicedo fired a superb shot past Andre Onana from the edge of the box. The result was a share of the points from an otherwise low-key encounter. Wesley Fofana rattled the woodwork with a first-half header, while Marcus Rashford also struck the angle of post and bar with a volley before the break. Premier League: What's going wrong at Old Trafford?

Image
Manchester United 1 - 3 Brighton & Hove Albion Let's explore some of what is going wrong at Manchester United after their third defeat of the season. Criticism for the manager? The home crowd turned against manager Erik ten Hag as Manchester United lost 3-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford. United fans have overwhelmingly supported Ten Hag since he arrived last summer, and they have backed him in his dispute with Jadon Sancho. A cacophony of boos rang around the stadium before Ten Hag was applauded off as he replaced new signing Rasmus Hojlund with Anthony Martial 19 minutes into the second period. After the match, United's Dutch manager defended this decision.  🚨🇩🇰 Erik Ten Hag on boos for subbing Hojlund: "It was positive. You see the fans in first moment at Old Trafford, reception was great, he performed very well, it was good they gave this signal, will give him belief. Premier League: Fernandes shines for Man United

Image
Manchester United 4 - 2 Sheffield United Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes scored twice to ensure that another chaotic performance ended with a victory against relegation-threatened Sheffield United.  With the visitors taking the lead twice, The Red Devils were on the verge of a humiliating loss to a team that had only won three times this season Fernandes levelled from the penalty spot before driving Manchester United in front from 25 yards nine minutes from time. Four minutes later, the Portuguese created a first goal since February for striker Rasmus Hojlund. This moved his side up to sixth spot and earned praise from his manager and many fans inside Old Trafford. Harry Maguire  had previously levelled the score to make it 1-1.   Despite a much-improved performance from Sheffield United, you'd still have to say Manchester United deserved this win. They looked more of a threat going forward and a bit more quality could have seen the home side easily score 7 or 8.  F

Premier League: United and Spurs play out pulsating draw

Image
Manchester United 2 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur Spurs came back from behind twice in a pulsating Premier League encounter to deny Manchester United what would have been a very important victory.  Rasmus Hojlund drove United into a third-minute lead. Richarlison then levelled with his sixth goal in as many Premier League games for the visitors. Tottenham were without three players, including captain Son Heung-min - who is away with South Korea at the Asian Cup. Marcus Rashford took the lead for the home team before halftime , but Rodrigo Bentancur nullified the advantage a minute into the second half with a powerful shot. This marked his first goal since April, overcoming a cruciate knee ligament injury and an ankle problem during that period. For new co-owner Jim Ratcliffe , who was seated alongside Sir Alex Ferguson in the directors' box, the rest of the match served as a learning experience. Manchester United had less than 40% possession, managed only nine shots compared to Totten

Euro 2024: Slovenia hold Denmark to a draw

Slovenia 1 - 1 Denmark Christian Eriksen made a triumphant return to the European Championship but this goal wasn't enough against a determined Slovenia side.  Eriksen's tournament began spectacularly as he scored the opening goal for his team 17 minutes in, skilfully slotting the ball into the bottom left corner after a clever flick-on from Jonas Wind. He was a standout performer, with Denmark dominating possession in the first half and creating several opportunities to increase their lead. Mauro Icardi delivered a crucial blow in the 81st minute, securing the Turkish giants their historic first-ever victory on English soil. Despite missing an earlier penalty opportunity to put the visitors in front at Old Trafford, Icardi showed his clinical side by capitalizing on Davinson Sanchez's header, lofting a shot past United's goalkeeper Andre Onana. This marked United's sixth loss in 10 games this season, with the team now facing its second defeat in the opening two matches of Group A in the Champions League. Adding to the woes of their manager, Erik ten Hag, his team had twice taken the lead thanks to goals from Rasmus Hojlund in both halves. On both occasions, Galatasaray responded swiftly to level the score. Furthermore, the situation escalated when

Premier League: Palace win at Old Trafford again

Image
Manchester United 0 - 1 Crystal Palace Manchester United suffered their second consecutive home defeat in the Premier League as Crystal Palace secured an impressive victory at Old Trafford, thanks to Joachim Andersen's outstanding strike. These two teams had clashed just five days earlier, with Erik ten Hag's side comfortably winning 3-0 in the Carabao Cup . However, Palace had rested several key players for that match and presented a different challenge on Saturday, delivering an excellent away performance.  Wolves 3 - 4 Manchester United Kobbie Mainoo secured a dramatic victory for Manchester United, sealing a 4-3 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in a match that will be remembered as a Premier League classic. Mainoo elegantly curled in his maiden Premier League goal, slipping it past Jose Sa just moments after Pedro Neto seemed to have salvaged a draw for Wolves. Despite being 2-0 down at halftime and 3-1 behind on 85 minutes, Wolves managed to pull level. However, Manchester United clinched the three points thanks to 18-year-old Mainoo. He collected the ball on the left, skillfully nutmegged Max Kilman, cut inside, and beautifully bent the ball into the bottom corner. The scoring began with Marcus Rashford, who, five minutes into his return for United after missing the FA Cup win over Newport County , opened the scoring. Rasmus Hojlund then doubled the lead. Pablo Sarabia pulled one back from the penalty spot, and Scott McTominay seemingly made it secure for the visitors by heading
