Scotland: Rangers sign Amad Diallo on loan

Image
Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has joined Rangers on a six-month loan. The 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger has made only nine appearances since his switch from Atalanta last year. His only goal for the club came in a Europa League match against AC Milan. Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson was delighted with the temporary addition and described it as "a really exciting signing for us". He added: "Amad and United had an array of options this window across the Premier League and in Europe." Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst told his club's website: "He is a player who I have been aware of for some time and when the opportunity to sign him came up, we were very keen to make it happen. "He will add a lot to our squad and provide even more competition for the players in the forward areas." Manchester United 2 - 0 PAOK Amad Diallo’s second-half brace handed Manchester United a crucial win over Greek champions PAOK, jump-starting their Europa League journey and giving incoming manager Ruben Amorim a real chance at securing a top-eight spot. Author - Olivia T Amad was United’s standout attacking threat, breaking the deadlock just five minutes into the second half with a looping header into the far corner. The Ivorian then wrapped up the win with a curling shot from the edge of the box, 13 minutes from time. PAOK’s best opportunity fell to Tarik Tissoudali, who couldn’t find the target from eight yards out with only Andre Onana to beat. Onana also pulled off an acrobatic save to deny Mady Camara, helping United through a relatively uneventful first half. This victory marks United’s second win in their last 12 European matches, and their first of this season after a run of t hree straight draws in the expanded Europa League. Manchester United 3 - 2 Real Betis Manchester United lifted the Snapdragon Cup, at the stadium of the same name, after they deservedly beat Real Betis. After Iker Losada's opener for the opposition, Erik ten Hag's men had to come from behind to get the win. The Red Devils achieved this in style, scoring three first-half goals in a fantastic 13-minute spell. The first was scored by Marcus Rashford from the penalty spot. Amad then followed up with a screamer before Casemiro scored a tap in.  Diego Llorente's second-half header did make it a closer contest, at least in terms of the scoreline. From a United perspective, it was another night when the manager was able to give more valuable minutes to aa decent number of his squad. Could Casemiro be back to his best? It seems the Brazilian will now stay at United for at least another season. This shouldn't be a problem if Casemiro plays next season like he did against Real Betis. The 32-year-old midfielder was everywhere,

Manchester United 3 - 2 Newcastle United  The Old Trafford side kept alive their chances of qualifying for European football through their league position with a hard fought win over Newcastle United. Kobbie Mainoo put Manchester United just after 31 minutes when he applied the finish from 10 yards after being played onside by Kieran Trippier. Anthony Gordon levelled for the away side four minutes after half side. At this point, Newcastle were on top again. Manchester United had needed a brilliant tackle from Sofyan Amrabat to stop Newcastle taking the lead as Alexander Isak failed to finish a three-on-one counter. Manchester United back in front Amad Diallo helped the home side regain the lead as he drove home just before the hour mark as Newcastle failed to clear a corner to put Manchester United back in front. A few moments later, Eddie Howe’s visitors were inches away from an equaliser as Miguel Almiron just failed to turn home a low cross from the excellent Gordon at the far p

United held in Ruben's first match

Ipswich Town 1 - 1 Manchester United Manchester United had to settle for a point at Ipswich in Ruben Amorim's first game in charge, despite striker Marcus Rashford providing an excellent start with an opener just 81 seconds into the match. Author - Olivia T Omari Hutchinson equalized for Ipswich before halftime, while United goalkeeper Andre Onana made two stunning saves to deny Liam Delap.  The outcome was disappointing for Amorim, as his team struggled to contain Ipswich at times and often faced a resolute home defense, which thwarted potential scoring opportunities.  Captain Bruno Fernandes narrowly missed with a late free-kick, but Ipswich fully deserved their point, and without Onana's brilliance, they likely would have scored more goals. Amorim's ambitious choice to start wing-back Amad Diallo paid off when he delivered the low cross that Rashford converted, marking the striker's fifth goal of the season. This was also Rashford's first goal in the Premier

FA Cup: Youngsters shine as United win the cup

Image
Manchester City 1 - 2 Manchester United Manchester United’s victory stopped Premier League champions City from claiming a second consecutive domestic double. United's win was forged through an impressive first-half performance that saw goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Garnacho capitalised on a mix-up between City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega and defender Josko Gvardiol, leaving him with an open goal to score half an hour in. Nine minutes later, Mainoo capped off a sweeping move with a composed finish following a delicate touch from Bruno Fernandes. City inevitably ramped up the pressure in the second half, with Erling Haaland hitting the post, United keeper Andre Onana making a superb save from Kyle Walker, and Julian Alvarez missing a golden opportunity. UEL: United held by Dutch side

Image
Manchester United 1 - 1 Twente Christian Eriksen experienced both triumph and disappointment for Manchester United as Erik ten Hag’s side faltered at the beginning of their Europa League journey, drawing with Twente, the Dutch manager’s boyhood club. Eriksen put United ahead in the first half with a brilliant finish from inside the box. However, a determined Twente side capitalised on Eriksen's mistake when he was dispossessed by Sam Lammers just outside United’s penalty area. The former Rangers player wasted no time, unleashing a powerful shot that flew past Andre Onana. Ten Hag's men had chances to secure a late win, but Twente goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall was in fine form, denying Joshua Zirkzee’s left-footed attempt that seemed destined for the net. Earlier, Unnerstall had also made a spectacular reflex save to stop Mees Hilgers from scoring an own goal. Bruno Fernandes, United’s captain, came close as well, and substitute Kobbie Mainoo had a penalty shout waved away. Foll
