Edwards departs Middlesbrough, where he has been head coach since June, to take charge at Molineux.
After Pereira’s sacking on 2 November, Wolves initially had an approach for Edwards turned down by Middlesbrough before being granted permission to speak to the 42-year-old once a compensation agreement was reached.
The former Wales international, who made 111 appearances for Wolves between 2004 and 2008, previously managed Luton Town in the Premier League.
His first match in charge will be against Crystal Palace at Molineux following the international break. He has a big task on his hands to keep them in the league.
Another managerial saga
Four days ago, Middlesbrough published a club statement saying: “We initially rejected an approach from Wolves on the basis that Rob signed a three-year contract with MFC less than six months ago.
“Following discussions with Rob we were disappointed to learn that he wanted to speak with Wolves regarding their head coach vacancy. We have now agreed terms with Wolves, subject to completion of the relevant paperwork.”
Rob Edwards' career so far
Edwards’ connection with Wolves dates back to 2004, when he made 111 appearances over four seasons, mainly as a central defender under Mick McCarthy.
Capped 15 times by Wales, Edwards later played for Blackpool, where he achieved promotion to the Premier League, and for Barnsley, before beginning his coaching career with Wolves’ under-18s in 2014.

A year later, he joined Kenny Jackett’s backroom staff as first-team coach and in October 2016 took temporary charge for two senior matches after Walter Zenga’s departure. Following a first spell in management with AFC Telford United, he returned to Wolves as under-23 head coach and guided the team to promotion to the top level of youth football.
He went on to work within the Football Association and achieved his first senior honour with Forest Green Rovers by winning the League Two title in 2022.
A brief period at Watford followed before he led Luton Town to Premier League promotion through the Championship play-offs in May 2023, earning widespread praise for their performances in the top flight.
Edwards now returns to Molineux after an impressive start to the season with Middlesbrough, who he leaves sitting second in the Championship.
