The result also confirmed Argyle’s relegation to League One.

With Burnley defeating Millwall 3-1, Leeds finished top on goal difference, having already secured promotion back to the Premier League last month after a two-year absence.

The home side struck first when Mustapha Bundu’s shot rebounded off the post and ricocheted in off Sam Byram, shortly after the lively forward had struck the upright.

Leeds, who started the day at the summit, struggled to break down a determined Plymouth defence until early in the second half, when Willy Gnonto converted from close range after Solomon’s low delivery from the byline.

Joel Piroe thought he had put Leeds ahead with 17 minutes to play, but his goal was ruled out for offside. With Burnley’s lead at The Den putting pressure on Daniel Farke’s side, they pushed forward in search of a decisive goal.

Solomon eventually delivered, cutting in from the left before drilling a low shot into the bottom corner to ignite wild celebrations among the travelling support and confirm a league title to cap their promotion.

Leeds had started brightly, with Joe Rodon and Brenden Aaronson both testing Conor Hazard, but it was Plymouth who struck first. Bundu had already gone close with a surging run and shot that clipped the outside of the post. Moments later, his low strike cannoned off the woodwork and deflected in via Byram.

Piroe nearly levelled soon after, lifting Jayden Bogle’s deflected effort over the bar from close range. Further half-chances fell to Byram, Ao Tanaka and Gnonto, but Leeds were unable to draw level before the break.

Piroe was again off target at the start of the second half, before Gnonto found the net to restore parity. Byram’s glancing header drifted wide midway through the half, while Piroe had another effort chalked off after Gnonto was judged marginally offside in the build-up.

As word of Burnley’s third goal spread, Farke turned to Patrick Bamford and Largie Ramazani from the bench in search of a winner. Plymouth, however, remained dangerous. Ryan Hardie bent a late shot just wide, and Callum Wright’s tame effort was comfortably gathered by Karl Darlow.

With time slipping away, Solomon stepped up. Driving into the box, he finished clinically beyond Hazard to clinch the win and spark jubilant scenes as Leeds celebrated a return to the top flight with silverware in hand.
