Euro 2024: Denmark secure qualification from Group C

Denmark 0 - 0 Serbia

Denmark secured second place in Group C thanks to their superior disciplinary record compared to Slovenia after a lacklustre draw with Serbia.

Pre match: Denmark 0 - 0 Serbia

Neither team showcased their full potential, though Denmark were marginally better in a forgettable match in Munich.

Denmark and Slovenia ended with identical records, requiring the teams to be separated by their yellow card tally. Both teams received six yellow cards, but Slovenian coach Novakovic Milivoje was also booked in the first game, which UEFA does not include in their disciplinary statistics, ultimately giving Denmark the narrowest of advantages.

While Denmark and Slovenia progress to the next round, Serbia are eliminated, despite none of the three teams securing a win in the group stage.

Jonas Wind had a goal disallowed for Denmark in the first half because the ball had gone out of play before he bundled it over the line from a corner. The Wolfsburg forward also slipped as he attempted to connect with a smart flick-on from Rasmus Hojlund, slicing the ball over the bar from a promising position, and was substituted at half-time.

Despite an underwhelming performance by their standards, Denmark continued to create chances. Alexander Bah headed wide and Christian Eriksen's shot was parried behind for a corner.

Serbia, aware they needed a win to avoid elimination due to Slovenia’s draw with England in the other Group C match, managed only one shot on target, which came in second-half stoppage time. They had a goal disallowed when Luka Jovic's shot deflected in off Denmark defender Joachim Anderson. Jovic had been offside in the build-up.

Knowing a draw would secure their place in the last 16, Denmark adopted a pragmatic approach and lacked a killer instinct. Jannik Vestergaard headed a corner straight at Serbia goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic, but the Danes rarely tested him in the second half.

As group runners-up, Denmark will face tournament hosts Germany in the next round.
