The Gunners have identified Vinicius as their preferred option on the left wing if uncertainty over his future at the Bernabeu continues.

The prospect of one of world football's leading attackers moving to north London has inevitably fuelled speculation, but there remains significant doubt over whether he will be available this summer.

Real Madrid and the player's representatives have been discussing a new deal for the past 18 months, with his current contract due to expire in 2027.

Real Madrid aim to reach agreement

Vinicius returned to Madrid on Monday for his first pre-season training session and medical assessment after representing Brazil at the World Cup.

The winger is working under Jose Mourinho for the first time this week, and sources close to the Portuguese coach say he is eager for the 26-year-old to commit his long-term future to the club.

Vinicius has made no secret of his desire to remain at the Bernabeu, but with his contract entering its final stages, Real are increasingly keen to avoid the risk of losing him on a free transfer.

That has added urgency to negotiations, with discussions expected to intensify over the coming days before the transfer window closes.

A similar scenario unfolded in 2023, when Vinicius entered the final year of his previous contract before agreeing an extension through to 2027.

Talks over a fresh deal have continued since then but have progressed slowly because of differences over salary and his standing within the squad.

Vinicius is understood to believe his importance to the club, particularly after leading the team before Kylian Mbappe's arrival, should be reflected in his wages.

Real Madrid, however, have long adhered to a strict wage structure under president Florentino Perez, with Mbappe currently the club's highest-paid player.

Despite the sticking points, Vinicius has repeatedly described Real Madrid as "the club of my dreams" and said he hopes to remain there for many years.

The Spanish giants remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached this week. Should negotiations fail to produce a breakthrough, Arsenal are expected to remain alert to any opportunity.
