Scotland: Hearts fight back to draw against Rangers

Hearts 3 - 3 Rangers

Hearts clinched a dramatic draw with the final kick of their Scottish Premiership season, ending a five-game losing streak against Rangers.

With no stakes on the line, the teams delivered an entertaining match that could have featured even more goals.

Lawrence Shankland scored his 31st goal of a remarkable season, putting Hearts ahead. However, their dreadful winless run against Rangers, which had lasted four years, seemed destined to continue as the visitors netted three times without reply after the break.

Ross McCausland equalised with a stunning strike, evading two players before firing in off the post from long range.

Todd Cantwell then found the net, also using the inside of the post to beat Zander Clark, following some excellent play by Cyriel Dessers.

Fabio Silva appeared to secure the win with a powerful shot from inside the box, but the match remained frenetic until the very end.

Dexter Lembikisa’s volley at the back post three minutes after Silva’s goal gave Hearts a glimmer of hope with ten minutes remaining, and they capitalised in stoppage time.

A long ball from goalkeeper Zander Clark was flicked towards the box, and Kyosuke Tagawa blasted in a brilliant volley to make it 3-3.

Hearts finish a successful season in third place, 17 points behind Rangers, who themselves ended eight points adrift of champions Celtic.

Rangers face a cup final against Celtic next week. If they were to win that, they would leave this season on a massive high. Defeat would leave the manager and coaching staff with massive questions to answer.

Paul, a Hearts fan, told us: "In a season of significant progress for Hearts, where we have improved their records in points, victories, away wins, and comebacks, the one achievement that has eluded the team is a performance against Rangers.

"Although we didn't manage that victory, their comeback from two goals down will have been especially satisfying, considering the five previous losses to the Ibrox side. The challenge now is to replicate this success next season, all while competing in European football until at least Christmas. Their only regret from the players will be the inability to perform in two cup semi-finals against Rangers."
