UEL: Hearts miss out on commendable draw

Image
Viktoria Plzeň 1 - 0 Hearts After overcoming a shaky start and edging towards a commendable goalless draw in the Czech Republic, Hearts' hopes were dashed when Daniel Oyegoke accidentally turned a late cross into his own net. Plzen's Cadu delivered a dangerous ball into the box, which caught Oyegoke off guard. The Hearts defender could only watch in dismay as the ball struck his thigh and sailed into the corner of the net. It was a bitterly frustrating conclusion, especially as Hearts had grown into the match, standing toe-to-toe with their more seasoned Czech opponents , who were competing in Europe for the 15th consecutive season. Lawrence Shankland came close with two shots from the edge of the box just before half-time, and Kenneth Vargas missed two opportunities when a cooler head was needed. However, solid goalkeeping and resilient defending kept Hearts in the game and nearly secured them a vital draw. UEFA Europa League and Conference League (eurosuperfootball.blogsp...

Scotland: Hearts hold Rangers

Image
Hearts 0 - 0 Rangers Hearts and Rangers kicked off the Scottish Premiership season with a draw, highlighting that last season's runners-up are still finding their footing after a turbulent summer. Stadium - Tynecastle Park  The teams met again at Tynecastle, where they had concluded the previous season with a thrilling 3-3 draw. In that match, Hearts secured a point with a last-minute equaliser from Kyosuke Tagawa . This time, Hearts, who finished third last season, were unlucky not to edge out an evenly-matched contest, indicating they have closed the gap on Rangers over the summer. Hearts' head coach Steven Naismith extended his unbeaten home streak to 12 games. Still, it is Philippe Clement, the Rangers' manager, who may feel more satisfied with the result, as it maintains Rangers' 16-game unbeaten run against Hearts. The draw gives champions Celtic a chance to end the opening weekend two points ahead of two potential top-of-the-table rivals when they host Kilmar...

Aberdeen beat Hearts to reach Scottish Cup final

Image
Hearts 1 - 2 Aberdeen Oday Dabbagh scored a dramatic winner in the 118th minute to send Aberdeen into their first Scottish Cup final in seven years, capitalising on Hearts being reduced to nine men late in extra time at Hampden Park. Author - Chris Thomas Stadium - Hampden Park The Palestinian forward reacted quickest after Craig Gordon could only parry a low drive from Dante Polvara, firing into the roof of the net from close range to seal a 2-1 win in a tense semi-final. Hearts had earlier clawed their way back into the match after falling behind to an unfortunate own goal. Papa Gueye’s header came off the underside of the crossbar, struck Gordon and bounced over the line. Lawrence Shankland levelled with a well-taken strike before Hearts were dealt a blow just before half-time when Michael Steinwender was shown a straight red card for a last-man foul on Topi Keskinen. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Neil Critchley’s side dug in and appeared to be heading for penalties. Howev...

Scotland: Celtic keep up perfect start

Image
Celtic 2 - 0 Hearts Celtic maintained their perfect start to the season as both sides faced contrasting outcomes with VAR for the champions and Hearts. Early in the match, the visitors were initially awarded a penalty in the first half after Lawrence Shankland's header struck Liam Scales' arm. However, the decision was overturned after a VAR review. In the second half, a cross from Nicolas Kuhn made contact with James Penrice's hand, leading to another VAR review. This time, the result was a penalty, and record signing Arne Engels scored his first goal for Celtic from the spot. To seal the victory, Luke McCowan also scored his first goal for Celtic with a late strike.  What about Hearts? Hearts find themselves one point behind at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership. This was an improved performance from the visitors, but the match ultimately ended in a seventh straight defeat in all competitions. Referee Colin Steven had been quick to point to the spot after the Sca...

Kartum double fires Hearts into Scottish Cup last four

Image
Hearts 3 - 1 Dundee Sander Kartum lit up Tynecastle with two superb goals as Hearts booked their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals at the expense of Dundee. Author - Mark Lee Stadium - Tynecastle Park The January signing from Brann broke his Hearts duck with a stunning strike from 20 yards to give the hosts a first-half advantage. Joe Shaughnessy nodded in Ziyad Larkeche's cross for parity after the interval but Simon Murray's headed own goal from Blair Spittal's free-kick put the hosts ahead again. And Kartum spun and sliced a low shot through the Dundee defence to ensure Neil Critchley's side progressed to the last four. Elton Kabangu, Calem Nieuwenhof and Alan Forrest were denied by Trevor Carson as Hearts pressed for a more emphatic victory. However, many fans would have accepted a fairly routine victory to reach the semi-finals. Critchley and his players can spend the next three days sizing up their potential opponents on the weekend of 19 and 20 April. The...

Scotland: Celtic ease to win against Hearts

Image
Celtic 3 - 0 Hearts Celtic moved a little bit closer to the title after easing past Hearts in Glasgow.  They face Rangers next weekend in a match that could decide the title. If Celtic avoid defeat, they will almost certainly end up as champions.  Kyogo Furuhashi scored the opening goal for Celtic in a fast-paced match at Celtic Park. He nodded the ball in from a cross by his fellow countryman Reo Hatate.  The Hearts team responded quickly, but Celtic extended their lead when Matt O'Riley's impressive long-range pass found Kyogo, who scored with a first-time shot and got his second of the match.  Kyogo then  had chances to score more goals in the first half, but Zander Clark, the Hearts goalkeeper, made some excellent saves. He also made a fantastic double save in the second half to deny Hatate and O'Riley. Celtic were awarded a late penalty after an on-field review showed that Lawrence Shankland had handled the ball in the box. O'Riley stepped up to t...

Maeda inspires Celtic again

Image
Celtic 3 - 0 Hearts Daizen Maeda struck twice in Celtic's commanding Scottish Premiership victory over Heart of Midlothian, bringing his season tally to an impressive thirty goals.  Author - Sean M Stadium - Celtic Park The Celtic boss had hinted before the match that both he and the club were eager to extend the Japan international's contract, which currently runs until the summer of 2027.  This latest performance served as yet another reminder of why that would be a wise move. Maeda has now scored in eight consecutive league games and shows no sign of slowing down. The forward was at the heart of all three goals and appears almost unstoppable in Scotland at present. A closer look at what happened at Celtic Park Hearts had arrived to this match with some confidence, having lost just twice in their previous fourteen matches. They were aiming to take another step towards securing a top-six place. All eyes were on Viljami Sinisalo, who stepped in for the injured Kasper Schme...

Scotland: Hearts fight back to draw against Rangers

Image
Hearts 3 - 3 Rangers Hearts clinched a dramatic draw with the final kick of their Scottish Premiership season, ending a five-game losing streak against Rangers. With no stakes on the line, the teams delivered an entertaining match that could have featured even more goals. Lawrence Shankland scored his 31st goal of a remarkable season, putting Hearts ahead. However, their dreadful winless run against Rangers, which had lasted four years, seemed destined to continue as the visitors netted three times without reply after the break. Ross McCausland equalised with a stunning strike, evading two players before firing in off the post from long range. Click here to discover more news and stories from across Scotland Todd Cantwell then found the net, also using the inside of the post to beat Zander Clark, following some excellent play by Cyriel Dessers. Fabio Silva appeared to secure the win with a powerful shot from inside the box, but the match remained frenetic until the very end. Dexte...

Celtic move three points clear at the top

Image
Hearts 1 - 4 Celtic Clinical Celtic opened up a three-point gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a commanding victory over Hearts at Tynecastle. Author - Sean M With Aberdeen suffering their first league defeat of the season earlier in the day, Brendan Rodgers' side seized the opportunity to establish clear daylight between themselves and the Dons for the first time this campaign. Celtic were sluggish in the first half, though, and were lucky to head into the break level. Blair Spittal and Lawrence Shankland both squandered excellent chances to put Hearts ahead. The second half, however, was a completely different story. Kyogo Furuhashi broke the deadlock with his seventh goal of the season, pouncing on a deflected clearance by Daniel Oyegoke after Craig Gordon's initial save. Minutes later, Nicholas Kühn doubled the lead with a superb counter-attacking goal, finishing clinically to put Celtic firmly in control. Celtic Football Club news and stories Adam Idah add...

Joe Hart was made to work inside two minutes from a Lawrence Shankland header, although the assistant referee did flag for offside. It was eventually Kyogo got the title party underway when he knocked the ball in from Reo Hatate's cross after half-time. Scottish Premiership: Aberdeen 2 - 1 Heart of Midlothian

St Johnstone relegated

Image
Hearts 2 - 1 St Johnstone St Johnstone’s 16-year tenure in the Scottish Premiership came to a heartbreaking end on Wednesday night, undone by a late Ross County equaliser in Dundee and their own defeat in a breathless encounter at Tynecastle. Author - Josh T Stadium - Tynecastle The Perth club had flirted with relegation for months, and despite a glimmer of hope as events elsewhere briefly swung in their favour, the night ultimately ended in despair. Simo Valakari’s side, who have languished at the foot of the table since just before Christmas, are now four points adrift with one match to play — their fate sealed before the final weekend. It was a night that veered between agony and faint optimism. Trailing 2-0 in Edinburgh while County and Dundee remained level, St Johnstone seemed destined for the drop. But when Dundee took the lead late on, hope flickered again. That was extinguished in stoppage time as County struck from the spot, leaving the Perth side beyond reach. At Tynecas...
