Premier League: Brentford thrash Luton

Luton Town 1 - 5 Brentford

Yoane Wissa netted twice as Brentford sailed past Luton, easing their worries by surging 10 points ahead of the relegation danger.

Wissa swiftly connected with Bryan Mbeumo's pass, beautifully curling in the opening goal from the box's edge just 24 minutes into the match.

Before the half-time whistle, the DR Congo striker seized another opportunity, reacting fastest to a loose ball following Luton's failure to clear Mbeumo's low cross.

Ethan Pinnock, back in the starting lineup after a hiatus since February, nodded in a Sergio Reguilon corner in the 62nd minute, firmly placing Brentford in control.

Luton appeared disheartened and short on ideas, highlighted when Keane Lewis-Potter found space at the far post to head in Mbeumo's cross two minutes later, followed by Kevin Schade wrapping up the visitor's scoring.

Although the hosts posed a minimal threat, they were granted a consolation in injury time when Luke Berry seized an opportunity, sidestepping goalkeeper Mark Flekken and slotting home from a narrow angle.

Let's explore the best Luton reaction

Paul, a Luton fan, messaged us this on Facebook: "I've been a loyal supporter of Luton Town for four decades now, and I must say, I can't recall a more disappointing performance. Honestly, if it hadn't been for our goalkeeper Kaminski, we would have been looking at a much heavier defeat. I'm stunned.

Jamie, another Luton fan, added: "We were nowhere to be seen out there. It felt like we were lacking our usual spark. Without a doubt, this was the poorest showing of the entire season! I'm feeling quite anxious at the moment. We need to rediscover our fighting spirit in these final four matches and keep our fingers crossed for some favourable results elsewhere!

Frank was also annoyed with Luton's performance: "What on earth did I just witness? It was such an out-of-character performance from Luton. The team selection caught me completely off guard, especially with players returning from injury earlier than expected. Brentford took full advantage of a team that hasn't had much time to gel since the injuries began. Barkley had a rough day, but it's his first off-day in the last 30 matches."
