Louie Barry stunner seals victory for Stockport County

Image
Stockport County 1  - 0  Wrexham Louie Barry’s stunning goal proved the difference as Stockport County edged a crucial League One top-six clash with a 1-0 win over Wrexham. Author - Mark Lee Just a few years ago, these teams were battling it out in Non-League, but on this occasion, Wrexham rarely threatened, and Stockport deservedly claimed the points. The match began evenly, but Barry’s moment of brilliance broke the deadlock. When Ollie Norwood’s effort was blocked, the ball fell to Barry, who turned sharply and unleashed a sublime shot into the top corner. Stockport pressed for a second, with Will Collar coming close after nicking the ball off defender Tom O’Connor, only for his effort to be deflected wide. Moments later, Wrexham goalkeeper Callum Burton kept his side in the contest with a brilliant double save. First, he stretched to tip Collar’s header from Barry’s cross, then recovered quickly to block Fraser Horsfall’s follow-up. Click here for more news and stories from the

Non-league Stockport County beat League One Bolton Wanderers in a thrilling FA Cup first-round replay. The chaotic match saw pitch invasions, a lost shirt and a missing corner flag.  Stockport boss Dave Challinor told the media: "Unbelievable game, this competition has provided things like that in the past but you'll go a long way to match something like that." Bolton boss Ian Evatt was critical of his side's performance: "They wanted it more, played with a better tempo and credit to them, they were fantastic. We were very poor." "This is what can happen in the FA Cup, if you are not how it should be at full tilt for a war, you will get beaten and that is what happened."  Wrexham 6 - 5 Dover Athletic Jordan Davies' stoppage-time goal secured a dramatic victory for Wrexham against already-relegated Dover. Paul Mullin gave Wrexham the lead and James Jones put them 2-0 ahead. However, Dover hit back through George Wilkinson before Alfie Pavey then equalised. Very few people  would have imagined what was coming next though.  Michael Gyasi's hat-trick gave Dover a 5-2 lead before Ollie Palmer pulled two goals back with Davies' double completing a remarkable comeback. During stoppage time, Davies' free-kick brought the host's level at 5-5. The winner was credited to Dan Jarvis, but it was Davies who got the final touch following a corner to finish an incredible afternoon. Wrexham are still second in the National League and are 11 points behind leaders Stockport County, while Dover remains rooted to the bottom of the table.
