Premier League: Palace hold Chelsea

Image
Chelsea 1 - 1  Crystal Palace Eberechi Eze scored a brilliant equaliser as Crystal Palace held Chelsea to a draw at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea, who hammered Wolves 6-2 last week , dominated the first half. Cole Palmer came close with a shot that went just wide, and Dean Henderson made a superb save to deny Noni Madueke, before Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring. Jackson finished off a swift Chelsea counter-attack by tapping in Palmer's cross at the near post. Palace were lucky not to be down to 10 men when Will Hughes, already on a yellow card, avoided further punishment for a foul on Palmer. Shortly after, the Eagles fans were celebrating as Eze curled a lovely shot past Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Sanchez then made a fantastic save to deny Daichi Kamada's powerful effort and prevent Palace from taking the lead. In stoppage time, Jackson had a chance to win it for Chelsea, but Henderson saved his effort after he went through on goal. The draw marks Crystal Palace'

FA Cup: Palace and Everton will go again

Image
Crystal Palace 0 - 0 Everton The FA Cup third round weekend started with a rather boring 0-0 draw between Palace and Everton. The game wasn't without controversy though. Everton have lodged an appeal against the red card given to Dominic Calvert-Lewin during their goalless draw against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup third-round.  If the appeal is unsuccessful, Calvert-Lewin could miss not only the third-round replay but also upcoming Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa and Fulham. The striker is facing a three-match ban due to his dismissal following a sliding challenge on Nathaniel Clyne, as determined by a VAR review during the second half. More VAR news and stories Referee Chris Kavanagh initially did not award a free-kick, but after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor, he deemed there was enough contact with Clyne's shin to warrant Calvert-Lewin's dismissal. Premier League: Palace win at Old Trafford again

Image
Manchester United 0 - 1 Crystal Palace Manchester United suffered their second consecutive home defeat in the Premier League as Crystal Palace secured an impressive victory at Old Trafford, thanks to Joachim Andersen's outstanding strike. These two teams had clashed just five days earlier, with Erik ten Hag's side comfortably winning 3-0 in the Carabao Cup . However, Palace had rested several key players for that match and presented a different challenge on Saturday, delivering an excellent away performance. Palace took the lead after Tyrick Mitchell cleared Rasmus Hojlund's shot off the line. Andersen then brilliantly fired a first-time shot into the top corner from a free-kick. Despite Manchester United's relentless pressure, t hey struggled to breach Palace's defence. When they did manage to break through, goalkeeper Sam Johnstone made crucial saves, first tipping Bruno Fernandes' dipping shot over the bar and then denying Hojlund's powerful header.

Premier League: Palace fight back to draw against City

Manchester City 2 - 2 Crystal Palace Manchester City's bid to defend their title faced another setback when Michael Olise's 95th-minute penalty salvaged a thrilling draw for Crystal Palace. City had a comfortable 2-0 lead with goals from Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis, seemingly heading for victory until Jean-Philippe Mateta scored with 14 minutes left. Michael Olise calmly converted, sparking jubilation among the away fans. This draw, City's third consecutive at home, puts them in fourth place, trailing leaders Liverpool by three points. Premier League: Patrick Vieira dismissed as Palace manager

Image
Another Premier League boss has lost his job. On Friday 17th March, Crystal Palace confirmed that Patrick Vieira has left his post as First Team Manager.  Three members of his coaching staff - Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Saïd Aïgoun - have also left the club. Chairman Steve Parish told cpfc.co.uk: “It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made. Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status. That said, Patrick’s impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself, and all of his colleagues.  "He led the team to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final and a respectable 12th-placed finish last season playing some exciting football, which was a challenging and crucial campaign for the club given the changes we made to the squad prior to his arrival." All the best r

Premier League: Palace thrash Leeds

Image
Leeds United 1 - 5 Crystal Palace Crystal Palace staged a remarkable second-half turnaround to give a significant boost to their Premier League survival hopes. This stunned Leeds and left them with plenty of work to do in their own bid to avoid a trip to the Championship. Palace dominated the second half. For as sharp and hungry as Leeds were in the first 45 minutes, they were disjointed and lethargic after the break as the players and fans were left in disbelief as Palace tore them apart. The Eagles scored four goals after the break with Jordan Ayew - in for the injured Wilfried Zaha - scoring two in an incredible demolition of the home side. <More Crystal Palace news and stories> After taking the lead through Patrick Bamford, it all went downhill as Marc Guehi flicked in an equaliser on the stroke of half-time before Palace scored two goals in two minutes soon after the break. First, Ayew made it 2-1 with an excellent header before Eberechi Eze added a quick third. Odsonn

Premier League: United display defiance to beat Palace

Image
"Another sign that things are going in the right direction." When Casemiro was shown a red card following a melee involving multiple players in their match against Crystal Palace, the Red Devils were in a comfortable position. However, that and a late Palace goal threatened to change the game. They showed a lot of character to hold on to, and this has impressed fans and pundits. Manchester United have beaten Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City this season. It was this win that has again given fans some more hope.  One United fan told our friends at Super Reds Super News: "This feels like a very important win for us. We dominated the game for around 70 minutes before the red card and the Crystal Palace goal. The character on display after that was perhaps a sign that we are going in a positive direction." United Review: Important win a sign of progress (superredssupernews.blogspot.com) "A big compliment to the team..." The United boss

Premier League: Wolves edge closer to safety

Image
Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 - 0 Crystal Palace Wolves gave their survival hopes a massive lift with what turned out to be a fairly comfortable win over Palace. In a match that was low on clear-cut chances, Wolves went in front after three minutes when Ruben Neves' corner bounced off the knee of Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen and in off the crossbar. A slightly nervy affair was settled by Neves' stoppage-time penalty as Wolves, who were bottom of the table when Lopetegui took charge in November, moved nine points clear of the relegation zone. This surely means survival for the home side.  Premier League news (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Albert Sambi Lokonga came closest to providing a Palace equaliser before half-time but his snap-shot from eight yards out was saved by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa. Premier League: Palace stun Liverpool again

Image
Liverpool 0 - 1 Crystal Palace  Crystal Palace have done it against Liverpool again.  Older fans of the London club would have been taken back to the 1990 FA Cup semi-final. Younger fans would have been remembering that stunning comeback from 3-0 down in 2014 that wrecked their title chances. What is it about Palace and destroying Liverpool's trophy dreams? The reaction to the final whistle suggested that this was a hugely damaging week for Liverpool. Jürgen Klopp congratulated his opponent on a Crystal Palace victory that has reverberated at both ends of the table before puffing out his cheeks and shaking his head in despair.  At the end of the match, Andy Robertson looked like he was in a trance. The home fans filed out of Anfield in total silence. In a title race with the tightest margins, Liverpool have blinked first.  Arsenal, would of course, blink later on in the day. This ultimately makes it advantage for Manchester City. It's starting to look like the pressure is

Premier League: Manchester City 0 - 2 Crystal Palace

Pep Guardiola said many things went wrong for Manchester City after Crystal Palace ruined his 200th Premier League game at the club. Wilfried Zaha pounced on an Aymeric Laporte error to put Palace ahead and the France defender was later sent off for a professional foul on the Eagles forward. Conor Gallagher's late second goal sealed the visitors' victory after Gabriel Jesus had seen an equaliser chalked off by the video assistant referee. Guardiola spoke about the red card after the match: "It could be a yellow card, could be a red, it depends on the decision of the referee. The disallowed goal, I didn’t see it but we didn’t lose because of that." The Manchester City manager added: "We conceded an early goal, played a good first half but at the same time there was the sending off and the interpretation from the referee. "Unfortunately it went wrong with many, many things. We didn’t have many chances in the first half but we had enough to score. Even wit

Premier League: Zaha shines again for Palace

Crystal Palace 2 - 1 Wolves  Wilfried Zaha scored a well-taken winner to seal Crystal Palace's terrific turnaround against managerless Wolves.  Picture from Flickr: Credit -  Ben Terrett Before the Zaha show, Adama Traore's header had earned the visitors a deserved half-time lead. This was almost doubled when Ruben Neves hit the post right on the stroke of half-time at Selhurst Park.  The game started to look very different once the second half had started. Palace never looked back once Eberechi Eze nodded them level from Michael Olise's pinpoint cross just 63 seconds into the second half. Zaha then took Odsonne Edouard's pass in his stride before drilling past Jose Sa for his fifth goal of the season to lift Palace up to 10th place in the Premier League table.  Wolves remain 17th and just one point above the relegation places. They came close to rescuing a point in London but Neves' late strike was superbly beaten away by Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita. Pre

Premier League: Palace rescue late point against Leicester

Image
Crystal Palace 2 - 2 Leicester City Note - This article and photo were sent to us by our friends at GMCR Football   Jean-Philippe Mateta rescued a late draw for Crystal Palace, netting his second goal of the match with a 92nd-minute penalty that denied Leicester City their first Premier League win since their return. Mateta had ended last season on a high, scoring nine goals in his final six matches under the guidance of Oliver Glasner, and his value to the team was evident again as his double strike saved Palace from what would have been a worrying defeat. A closer look at the match Jamie Vardy opened the scoring for Leicester midway through the first half, picking up a pass from Wilfred Ndidi, rounding Dean Henderson, and slotting the ball into an empty net. Leicester extended their lead just 23 seconds after the restart, with Ndidi pouncing on a poor clearance from Palace debutant Maxence Lacroix, setting up Stephy Mavididi to blast the ball into the roof of the net from close

Premier League: Arsenal thrash Crystal Palace

Image
Arsenal 5 - 0 Crystal Palace Arsenal revived their pursuit of the Premier League title with an emphatic victory over struggling Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners' aspirations for the top spot had waned towards the close of the previous year, suffering three defeats in their last five Premier League fixtures. However, a rejuvenated Arsenal returned with newfound vigour under the guidance of Mikel Arteta.  Three points were sealed through a Gabriel header, an own goal from Dean Henderson , a composed finish by Leandro Trossard, and two late strikes from Gabriel Martinelli. The first two goals originated from corner kicks, with Gabriel nodding in the opener in the 11th minute. Another set-piece led to the defender's header striking Crystal Palace goalkeeper Henderson, deflecting into the net. The visitors struggled to mount a response, and Arsenal extended their lead in the second half when Trossard calmly finished in a one-on-one situation with the goalkee

Crystal Palace: 23/24 Season Review

Image
It's time to explore Crystal Palace's 2023/2024 season. It marked Crystal Palace's 118th season and their eleventh consecutive campaign in the Premier League. They also competed in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. It was the first season since 2013–14 without Wilfried Zaha, who departed for Turkish club Galatasaray in the summer, and Scottish midfielder James McArthur, who retired. As a result, Joel Ward was appointed club captain at the beginning of the season, replacing the departed Luka Milivojević. Despite being 15th and just 5 points above the relegation zone in mid-February, the appointment of Oliver Glasner revived the team's fortunes, and a strong finish saw the Eagles equal their highest league finish in the Premier League era. Let's examine some of the moments from another interesting year at Selhurst Park. In September, they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Manchester United. They were beaten 3-0, and many fans criticised the weakened squad put out.  Un

Crystal Palace 2 - 1 Stoke City Despite progressing in the cup, Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira told the media that his players' concentration was not good enough after seeing his side reach the quarter-finals. Premier League: Fulham move closer to European places

Image
Crystal Palace 0 - 3 Fulham "The connection with the fans is stronger than it's ever been." 🫂 @timream5 | #FFC — Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) December 27, 2022 It was a nightmare Boxing Day for Patrick Vieira and Crystal Palace as they lost 3-0, finishing the game with 9 men. Bobby Decordova-Reid, Tim Ream and Aleksandar Mitrovic scored, with Palace overpowered by their London rivals as they ended the game with nine men. Tyrick Mitchell was dismissed for a foul on Kenny Tete just three minutes after his side went behind. James Tomkins then followed him before the hour. Despite being dominant in the match throughout, Marco Silva's side were helped by Palace's indiscipline, which put a stop to their hopes of a fourth straight home win. The result strengthens the visitors' unlikely European push, as they sit in eighth, just two points off the top six. Heading towards the half-hour mark, Palace, having struggled to impose themselves early on, almost

EFL Cup: United impress against Palace

Image
Manchester United 3 - 0 Crystal Palace Holders United moved into the last 16 of the Carabao Cup after goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro before Martial's clinical first-time effort 10 minutes after the restart. After a few weeks of chaos, this was the kind of night United manager Erik ten Hag must have wanted as his side clinched their most significant win of the season. With Mason Mount back in the starting XI and fellow summer signing Sofyan Amrabat making his first start, Ten Hag was at least able to integrate some key pieces of his United puzzle. There were also plenty of examples of controlled possession, which Ten Hag has so far struggled to implement. Evidently, the game plan was to create an overload on the United right with lofted cross-field passes from the left, which both Amrabat and Mount were able to execute. Morocco international Amrabat caught the eye as an inverted left-back. The on-loan Fiorentina man's early shot was poor, but he was excellent

Premier League: A new low for Manchester United's season

Image
Crystal Palace 4 - 0 Manchester United  Crystal Palace sealed their first league double over Manchester United with a deserved and emphatic 4-0 win at Selhurst Park. Before our thoughts, you can watch the highlights in the video below. The footage iss from the Crystal Palace YouTube account. Michael Olise ran 20 yards without any tackle or meaningful challenge to eventually slot beyond Andre Onana and put Oliver Glasner's side in the lead after 13 minutes. Jean-Philippe Mateta then surged beyond Johnny Evans with relative ease to finish emphatically for his sixth goal in a row in his home stadium. Palace fans were in disbelief at this point.  Palace eased to victory in the second-half  Tyrick Mitchell tapped in from close range after a great cross by Adam Wharton in the 58th minute. The French youngster Olise then capitalised on a Casemiro mistake to score against the United keeper Onana. This was a new low for Manchester United's season. They now face a battle to qualify

Premier League: Dream start for Sean Dyche

Image
Everton 1 - 0 Arsenal Sean Dyche enjoyed a dream start as Everton's manager as they stunned Premier League leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park. Dyche was appointed last Monday following the departure of Frank Lampard. The hosts picked up their first victory in 11 games in all competitions courtesy of a link-up between two men who played for Dyche at Burnley. James Tarkowski rose at the far post to power home a header from Dwight McNeil's corner to spark the sort of joyous scenes that haven't been seen since that memorable victory over Crystal Palace last season Everton had enjoyed much better chances in the opening period too. Arsenal were outfought for large periods and failed to find any rhythm, although January signing Leandro Trossard forced Jordan Pickford into a sharp save late on. The Gunners couldn't find the leveller and will see their lead at the top cut to two points if champions Manchester City beat Tottenham on Sunday. Full-time scenes Full-time SCENE

PL: Manchester City held by Crystal Palace

Image
Crystal Palace 0 - 0 Manchester City Manchester City missed their chance to go six points clear at the top of the Premier League.  They were held by a resilient Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The away side dominated proceedings. They twice hit the woodwork and defender Aymeric Laporte failed to find the net with the goal at his mercy in the first half. In front of a fantastic atmosphere, Palace frustrated the Premier League leaders but created little themselves going forward. A point keeps them 11th as they boosted their hopes of a top-half finish. Let's have a look at the best reaction Pep Guardiola told BBC Sport: "We play a really good game. In 90 minutes we concede mistakes a little bit, but the way we played was really good. "Luck doesn't exist in football. We have to score goals and we didn't do it. We played to score goals and concede few. We struggled a little bit." One City fan told us: I really think we might regret this result. Liverpool are
