Premier League: Palace fight back to draw against City

Manchester City 2 - 2 Crystal Palace

Manchester City's bid to defend their title faced another setback when Michael Olise's 95th-minute penalty salvaged a thrilling draw for Crystal Palace.

City had a comfortable 2-0 lead with goals from Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis, seemingly heading for victory until Jean-Philippe Mateta scored with 14 minutes left.

The drama continued in stoppage time when Phil Foden fouled Mateta, leading to a penalty. Michael Olise calmly converted, sparking jubilation among the away fans. This draw, City's third consecutive at home, puts them in fourth place, trailing leaders Liverpool by three points.

While Palace has won just one of their last 10 games, this result felt like a win for them, especially after last week's stoppage-time defeat to Liverpool.

City's struggles continue with only one win in their last six league games. Their failure to capitalize on opportunities haunted them once again, despite initially dominating the match.

Pep Guardiola's team seemed in control, patiently navigating Palace's solid defence. The breakthrough occurred when Foden set up Grealish for a goal, confirmed after a VAR check. City had chances to extend their lead, but Palace staged an unexpected comeback, leaving City frustrated and facing the Fifa Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia with ground to make up in the league.

Frank, a Palace fan, said: "It was an unbelievable result, in my opinion. It's fantastic to get a draw. The key is to stay in the game as long as possible and hopefully catch them on the break. We stuck to the game plan. It's a great recovery for this time after last week's poor result and performance."

Jamie, another Palace fan, told us on Facebook: "Of course, I'm happy that we have picked up an extremely unlikely last-minute equaliser against last season's treble winners- great response since the Bournemouth embarrassment, with an excellent performance against Liverpool last week albeit an unlucky outcome, and today's character- most teams cave in when their 2-0 down at the Etihad."

This video from Jsm44 - YouTube gives a good insight into what Manchester City fans were thinking.

Macca, a City fan, added: "We don't look as composed as we did last season. You always feel like teams are in with a shout, even when we're 2-0 up."
