Premier League: United display defiance to beat Palace

"Another sign that things are going in the right direction."

When Casemiro was shown a red card following a melee involving multiple players in their match against Crystal Palace, the Red Devils were in a comfortable position. However, that and a late Palace goal threatened to change the game. They showed a lot of character to hold on to, and this has impressed fans and pundits.

Manchester United have beaten Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City this season. It was this win that has again given fans some more hope.

One United fan told our friends at Super Reds Super News: "This feels like a very important win for us. We dominated the game for around 70 minutes before the red card and the Crystal Palace goal. The character on display after that was perhaps a sign that we are going in a positive direction."

MUFC 2 - 1 Crystal Palace - 1

"A big compliment to the team..."

The United boss Erik ten Hag told BBC Match of the Day: "When you have ten men after a player is sent off and it is quickly 2-1, you have to hold on for the win. The first 70 minutes were all ours, we dominated the game. A big compliment to the team. We played with energy and really well in possession and defensive transition."

Rashford is huge for Manchester United - our opinion

Martial has again been ruled out with injury. This will mean that Rashford's goals output will continue being crucial for United.

The England striker now has 19 in all competitions and also claimed an assist for the hosts' opener. This came when his cross was handled by Palace's Hughes and Bruno Fernandes scored from the resulting penalty.

One United fan added: "There was once a time where Marcus Rashford wasn’t enjoying football & could barely break a smile. Now he’s loving it and doesn’t stop smiling."

What did you think of the match?

You can explore some of the game's key incidents in the video below.

Palace perspective

Palace boss Patrick Vieira was happy with some aspects of the performance. He told the media: "We knew how tough this game was going to be because of how they play the game. But we managed to get involved and create chances, and again we grew into the game. I believe there was a place to score the second goal and take a point. We showed character, and I was pleased with the personality we showed and we will take a lot of positives."

A Palace fan told us: "It was a poor 70 minutes from us. However, we did ok in the last 20 minutes of the match. Onwards and upwards."

Another added: "I think we should be worried. Relegation from us at the moment. I don't know when we are going to get a win again."
