Fa Cup: Crystal Palace progress against Stoke City

Crystal Palace 2 - 1 Stoke City

Despite progressing in the cup, Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira told the media that his players' concentration was not good enough after seeing his side reach the quarter-finals.

Jairo Riedewald scored a late winner as Palace delivered with their only two shots on target to beat the Championship team.

Palace led when Jean-Philippe Mateta's deflected shot landed to Cheikhou Kouyate, who hammered the ball into the top corner from six yards out.

Josh Tymon then levelled for Stoke a few minutes later after good play by Romaine Sawyers on his return from injury.

Substitute Riedewald slotted in the winner after Jack Bonham punched away Conor Gallagher's cross. You can watch the highlights in the video below.

Palace  handed a full debut to teenage Irish defender Tayo Adaramola and were made to work hard by Stoke in a close game that had very few clear-cut chances.

Steven Fletcher's ambitious volley late on was stopped by Jack Butland. One of the best opportunities also saw Joachim Andersen head Liam Moore's 20-yard lob off the line.

Palace boss Vieira won four FA Cups for Arsenal and one with Manchester City. He is now only two games away from the first cup final of his managerial career.

Some of the best reaction

Stoke City boss Michael O'Neill spoke with BBC Sport after the match: "At the very least, we deserved to go to extra time. I think for a period in the second half we were the better team. There was very little in the first half.

"At 1-1 we looked the team more likely to win. Unfortunately we can't defend the corner. It lands to the feet of their lad. It comes through a crowd of bodies and ends in the bottom corner and that's why we're out of the cup."

Christian Benteke tweeted: Back on the pitch, always happy to give it all for my team. A massive win at Selhurst!"

The Palace manager also added: ""It is a really exciting period. It is one step before Wembley. We are pleased and happy to go to the next round, but I was really disappointed with how we played today."

One Stoke fan told us: "It's horrible losing like that, but we concentrate on improving our form in the league though. A trip to Wembley would have been nice!"
