Premier League: Everton pay the penalty

Image
Manchester United 2 - 0 Everton Manchester United halted their two-game losing streak by securing victory over Everton at Old Trafford through first-half penalties converted by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. https://t.co/qfMpbyVToc pic.twitter.com/7TtUTl4f61 — European Super Football (@ESFootballNews) March 11, 2024 In a peculiar match, Everton became the fifth team in six Premier League games to muster at least 20 shots against Erik ten Hag's side, yet their wastefulness and defensive lapses cost them dearly. Both James Tarkowski and Ben Godfrey received yellow cards for reckless challenges on Alejandro Garnacho. Fernandes calmly dispatched the first penalty, directing a precise low shot to Jordan Pickford's left corner. Despite the skipper passing on the second penalty to Rashford, the latter confidently sent Pickford the wrong way for his seventh goal of the season. Following defeats against Fulham and Manchester City, the win brought United within three points ...

The last ever FA Cup match at Goodison Park

Image
Everton 0 - 2 Bournemouth Everton handed Bournemouth a place in the FA Cup fifth round, marking the final FA Cup fixture ever to be played at Goodison Park. Author - James L Stadium - Goodison Park The Toffees have called the historic ground home since 1892, but this defeat means their next home FA Cup tie will take place at their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, where they are set to move at the start of next season. It was a night to forget for Everton, who were largely the architects of their own downfall. Captain James Tarkowski endured a nightmare first half, with his errors directly leading to both of Bournemouth’s goals. Tarkowski’s struggles began when he mistimed a sliding tackle on Antoine Semenyo inside the box midway through the first half. The Ghanaian forward dusted himself off and confidently smashed home the resulting penalty past Jordan Pickford. Semenyo caused Everton’s defence problems all evening, narrowly missing with another effort and seeing a tight-angled ...

An exciting player that was loved by everyone

Everyone at European Super Football was saddened by the news of the passing of the iconic Kevin Campbell. A striker whose blend of finesse, power, and finishing made him a standout player at several clubs.  Campbell is best remembered for his spells at Arsenal and Everton. At Highbury, he helped The Gunners win the First Division title in 1991 and secured both the FA Cup and League Cup in 1993. He also played a crucial role in Arsenal's victory in the European Cup Winners’ Cup final against Parma in 1994. Another highlight of Campbell's career was his loan move to Everton from Turkish side Trabzonspor in March 1999. Escaping a difficult stint in Turkey, he scored nine goals in eight games, helping Walter Smith’s team avoid relegation. Campbell's popularity soared at Everton, especially after he scored the winning goal in a 1-0 Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield in September 1999. This victory was particularly memorable as it marked the last time Everton won at An...

Cole Simms doubled Wigan’s lead shortly after, before Everton pulled one back late on through a penalty from 16-year-old Ray Robert. Fulham hold Arsenal and dent their title hopes

Image
Fulham 1 - 1 Arsenal Arsenal were denied a late winner as they missed the chance to cut the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to four points, settling for a draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Author - DJ Bukayo Saka looked to have secured all three points for the Gunners when he nodded in Gabriel Martinelli's cross with just two minutes remaining. However, the goal was ruled out after Martinelli was deemed offside in the build-up. Fulham had taken the lead against the run of play through Raul Jimenez, who scored his sixth goal of the season. The Mexican striker latched onto Kenny Tete's pass down the line and fired past David Raya from a tight angle. Arsenal, hoping to take advantage of Liverpool's postponed Merseyside derby against Everton , struggled to create clear chances in the first half. Their only shot on target came from Saka, as they laboured to break down Fulham's defence. Mikel Arteta's side found an equaliser six minutes into the second ha...

Premier League: West Ham hold Liverpool to a draw

Image
West Ham United 2 - 2 Liverpool  Liverpool's title hopes were dented again after Michail Antonio scored to rescue a point for West Ham at the London Stadium. Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring just before the break when he rose highest to meet Mohammed Kudus' cross. At this point, Liverpool were showing little evidence that their Merseyside derby loss in midweek had done much in the way of spurring them on. Klopp's side were much improved in the second half and Andy Robertson equalised when he scored from Luis Diaz's low pass into the penalty area. Liverpool were then rewarded again for their pressure when Cody Gakpo's effort from a corner deflected off Angelo Ogbonna, Tomas Soucek and Alphonse Areola before finding the back of the net. Antonio's fine header put the Hammers back on level terms two minutes before Liverpool brought on Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian couldn't win the game for Liverpool and appeared to have fallen out with the manager.  You can w...
