Premier League: Man United held at home

Image
Manchester United 0 - 0 Southampton Manchester United suffered a frustrating 0-0 draw against Southampton at Old Trafford, after Casemiro was sent off in the first half. The Brazilian midfielder was given his marching orders for a challenge on Carlos Alcaraz. Referee Anthony Taylor initially held up a yellow card, before a VAR check persuaded him it was serious foul play. The home side's best chance of the game fell to Bruno Fernandes. His curling effort forced Saints goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu to make a great save to force it onto the post. United Review: Reds held against Southampton  David De Gea’s heroics helped to keep the game goalless. He first denied Theo Walcott in the first half with an incredible reflex save from close range.  United started off with a series of quick counterattacks. The best of those came when Antony tried to find the run of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the right-back’s cross was easily dealt with by the opposition defence.  The away side managed to create

Premier League: United and Liverpool play out another chaotic classic

Manchester United 2 - 2 Liverpool "I genuinely feared that we'd be beaten heavily by Liverpool again. I was pleasantly surprised by the result, especially after the first 45 minutes." Those words were sent to us by Liam, a Manchester United Season Ticket holder . He was in the Stretford End as United drew with Liverpool for the second time in the Premier League this season.  How did the drama unfold? Liverpool missed the chance to climb to the top of the Premier League in another thrilling match at Old Trafford. Manager Jurgen Klopp and his players will be left wondering how they failed to avenge the FA Cup quarter-final loss last month. The Anfield side missed numerous chances and were dominating the hosts for long periods. The away side only had a Luis Diaz strike to show for almost total first-half superiority in which they had 15 shots to none from United. The United boss Erik Ten Hag would have been thankful for the visitors' wastefulness and saves from keeper

How big of an impact could these new players have on United's season? The Red Devils have brought in Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in a deal that could total nearly £60 million. Brothers in arms 🇳🇱🇲🇦 Our signing interview with @MdeLigt_04 has just dropped — exclusively to #MUTV subscribers for the first hour 🙌 #MUFC — Manchester United (@ManUtd) August 15, 2024 De Ligt has signed a five-year contract, with the option to extend for an additional year, while Mazraoui has agreed to a four-year deal, also with the possibility of a one-year extension. United have agreed to pay £38.5 million, plus £4.3 million in add-ons, for 25-year-old centre-back De Ligt, who previously captained Erik ten Hag’s Ajax team that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019. Mazraoui, who also worked under Ten Hag at Ajax, has praised the manager’s influence on his career. The 26-year-old Moroccan defender joins for an initial fee of £12.8 million, with an extra

Pre Season: Arsenal win in LA

Image
Arsenal 2 - 1 Manchester United Manchester United were defeated in their opening game of the US tour against Premier League rivals in Los Angeles. Højlund gave his team an early lead in the 10th minute, latching onto Marcus Rashford’s first-time pass, overpowering young defender Ayden Heaven, and slipping the ball through keeper Karl Hein’s legs. The Danish forward missed a close-range opportunity from an Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross before appearing to suffer a muscle injury just 15 minutes in, forcing him to leave the field. Yoro's departure was similarly unfortunate. The 18-year-old defender, who had only joined United from Lille 10 days ago, went down and required extensive treatment before also having to withdraw. Manager Erik ten Hag was understandably frustrated by these injuries. Despite their strong start, the match didn’t end to the Dutchman’s satisfaction either. Gabriel Jesus equalised with a close-range effort after 25 minutes, which Ten Hag believed should have been r

Premier League: Title race will go to final day

Image
Manchester United 0 - 1 Arsenal Arsenal ensured the title race will go to the final day with victory over a depleted Manchester United side at Old Trafford. The Gunners display was often unconvincing here but they got the job done. Their manager will be pleased with how they have kept the pressure on Manchester Citty. The only goal of the game came when Leandro Trossard struck after 20 minutes. Lazy defending from struggling veteran Casemiro played Kai Havertz onside, his cross was then turned in by the Belgian at the near post. Manchester United showed plenty of effort and endeavor. However, they suffered from a glaring lack of quality. The Red Devils never seriously tested Arsenal keeper David Raya, as their own hopes of European football next season faded further.  It's looking increasingly likely that they will only qualify for Europe if they beat Manchester City in the upcoming Fa Cup final. What impact will this have on the title race? Arsenal must now hope north London

Premier League: United start with a tense win

Image
Manchester United 1 - 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers It was a better start for United than last season, but this was unconvincing on their first match of the season.  Raphael Varane secured the decisive goal with just 14 minutes remaining, propelling Manchester United to a somewhat lucky victory.  Until Bruno Fernandes' brilliant pass set up Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the penalty area, Erik ten Hag's team struggled to create meaningful scoring opportunities. With composure, the right-back skillfully lofted the ball that was bouncing unpredictably towards the outskirts of the six-yard box. It was at this juncture that Varane's superior height came into play, allowing him to outjump Nelson Semedo and elegantly direct a header into the net. Was this penalty There was a hugely controversial moment in the match. Watch the video and let us know if you thought it was a penalty. In reality, had Wolves got the penalty and scored it, it would have been a deserved draw." Should Wolve

PL: Fernandes shines as Man United beat Leeds

Image
Leeds United 2 - 4 Manchester United Let's check all the reaction as Manchester United survived a second-half scare to win 4-2 at Elland Road. Substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga both found the net in the final 20 minutes. United went into a two-nil lead before the break thanks to goals from Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes. However, Leeds responded in the second half. Quickfire goals from both Rodrigo and Raphinha had pulled Marcelo Bielsa's side level before Fred and Elanga ensured all three points returned to Old Trafford. It was Leeds who carved open the first real chance of the game after just five minutes, as Mateusz Klich cleverly found Jack Harrison unmarked with a lofted through pass. He failed to trouble David De Gea and fired his effort wide of the mark. Memorable moments between Leeds United and Manchester United (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Paul Pogba then aimed shortly after, with the Frenchman driving forward from the right before releasing a low drive t

Premier League: Controversial penalty wins it for West Ham

West Ham United 2 - 1 Manchester United Manchester United will be wondering how they have lost this game. Jarrod Bowen scored a penalty in injury time to condemn The Red Devils to a 2-1 defeat. Author - Olivia T A closer look at what happened at the London Stadium That late penalty from Jarrod Bowen handed Manchester United a 2-1 defeat in the Premier League, easing the pressure on West Ham’s manager, Julen Lopetegui. Casemiro had briefly revived United’s hopes of taking a point, heading in with less than ten minutes to go to cancel out Crysencio Summerville’s 74th-minute goal.  Controversy struck with just three minutes remaining when referee David Coote was called to the pitchside monitor by the Video Assistant Referee to review Matthijs de Ligt’s challenge on Danny Ings in the box. Despite protests from United’s players, who claimed a handball by Ings, Coote awarded the penalty, and Bowen kept his cool to slot the ball past André Onana. Click here for more Premier League news
