Amad rescues Manchester United

Manchester United 3 - 1 Southampton Amad Diallo delivered a sensational late hat-trick to help Manchester United snatch an unlikely victory over Southampton at Old Trafford, turning what looked set to be a humiliating defeat into a thrilling comeback. Author - Liam C United had been on the verge of a fourth consecutive top-flight home loss—their worst run at Old Trafford since 1930. Struggling to break down a Southampton side that had only one league win all season and were reeling from a 5-0 thrashing by Brentford, the Reds seemed destined for more misery. But Diallo, fresh from signing a new five-and-a-half-year contract just a week earlier, had other plans. Initially deployed as a wing-back, the Ivorian was moved into a more attacking role and completely transformed the game. With nine minutes remaining, he drew United level by bursting into the box, benefiting from a fortunate ricochet, and firing the loose ball past Aaron Ramsdale . In stoppage time, Diallo struck again. Latch...

Crystal Palace come from behind to beat Southampton

Image
Crystal Palace 2 - 1 Southampton Eberechi Eze delivered the decisive blow as Crystal Palace overturned an early deficit to beat Southampton, moving six points clear of the relegation zone. Author - Craig H The Saints struck first in the 14th minute when Kyle Walker-Peters outpaced Daniel Munoz to whip in a cross, which Adam Armstrong flicked on for Tyler Dibling to slot home from close range. Palace, however, hit back 16 minutes later as Trevoh Chalobah rose to nod in a Will Hughes corner. Southampton players protested, claiming Jean-Philippe Mateta had fouled goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as the ball came in, but VAR confirmed the goal. Eze then produced a moment of magic early in the second half, rifling Munoz’s deflected cross into the bottom corner to secure all three points for the Eagles. Munoz had missed a golden chance earlier, failing to convert Tyrick Mitchell’s inviting cross when the game was level in the first half, his effort rebounding off Walker-Peters with the goal at ...

Transfer News: Raya signs for Arsenal permanently

Image
Do you think this is a good permanent move Arsenal fans? The Gunners have activated the £27m option to permanently buy Brentford goalkeeper David Raya after his successful loan spell last season. Raya kept 16 Premier League clean sheets for the Gunners to win the Golden Glove, conceding just 16 league goals in the campaign. He did have an underwhelming start to the season. His lowest point came after making two errors in Arsenal's last-gasp 4-3 win over Luton in December. Arsenal already had a settled keeper in Aaron Ramsdale, who had played all 38 league matches the previous season, keeping 14 clean sheets. Still, boss Mikel Arteta opted for a new option. Click here for more Arsenal news and stories He missed only two league matches when he was ineligible to face his parent club Brentford. Raya was praised by Arteta for his passing out from the back ended any doubt about his position in March when he saved two penalties as Arsenal beat Porto in a shootout to reach the quarter-...

Image
It's a big question The form of Arsenal has impressed everyone and it's start look like The Gunners might be in for the long haul this season.  Let's have a look at what all of the experts and erm... 'non-experts' ae saying: European Super Football: Reporter: Phil Thomas Our resident Arsenal fan has had his say. Phil Thomas said: I'm still not sure to be honest. I would have taken top four and success in one of the three cups at the start of the season. Now, a little part of me thinks we can win the title. The big tests will come in March and April. That's when previous title bids have faded away in the past. The Guardian: Journalist: Nick Ames The Guardian's football coverage remains very popular. This is what their Nick Ames said: It augurs well when the breaks start going your way. Aaron Ramsdale knew it, judging by his fist-pumping reaction to Patrick Bamford’s penalty miss at Elland Road; Mikel Arteta almost certainly did, if his visible ecstasy at...

International Friendly: England lose against Iceland

Image
England 0 - 1 Iceland England wrapped up their preparations for Euro 2024 with a dismal defeat against Iceland at Wembley. Manager Gareth Southgate made several changes following Monday’s win against Bosnia-Herzegovina at St James’ Park in Newcastle, but he will have been deeply disappointed with the team's lacklustre performance. Iceland, notorious for their victory over England at Euro 2016, easily exploited England's poor defending. Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who replaced Jordan Pickford, might have done better with Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson’s low shot after 12 minutes. Harry Kane missed a great chance for England, while Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, one of the brighter performers, also had opportunities. However, Southgate’s side looked rusty as they finalised plans for their opening Euro 2024 match against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on 16 June. England appeared vulnerable at the back throughout the match, with Iceland creating chances to extend their lead after the break. Interna...

Premier League: Southampton remain winless

Image
Manchester City 1 - 0 Southampton Manchester City reclaimed their spot at the top of the Premier League table after an early goal from Erling Haaland secured a narrow victory over struggling Southampton. Author - Sean M Haaland muscled past Jan Bednarek to connect with Matheus Nunes' cross just five minutes in, slipping the ball past Saints’ goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for his 11th league goal of the season. At that moment, it seemed as though the visitors were in for a tough afternoon. However, a combination of resilient defending from Southampton and some wasteful finishing by City—Haaland being a notable offender—left the home fans feeling a bit uneasy until the final whistle. This win extended City’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to 32 matches. They are now only six weeks away from going a full year without a league defeat, their last loss coming against Aston Villa on 6 December. While Southampton deserve credit for their determined display , the result did little to ea...

Image
England have confirmed their 26-man squad for the European Championships Gareth Southgate has revealed his final 26-man squad, and some notable names are missing. Manchester City's Jack Grealish, Manchester United's Harry Maguire, and Tottenham's James Maddison have all been left out. Burnley's goalkeeper James Trafford, Liverpool's defender Jarell Quansah, Everton's defender Jarrad Branthwaite, and Liverpool's midfielder Curtis Jones, who were part of the initial 33-player shortlist, have also not made the cut. Manchester United's Luke Shaw who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since mid-February, is part of the squad. This has come to the surprise of many but his experience and nature as one of England's best left-backs probably swung that in his favour. Premier League: Entertaining draw at Emirates Stadium

Image
Arsenal 2 - 2 Fulham Fulham earned a point at Arsenal thanks to Joao Palhinha. His first-time finish from a corner in the 87th minute earned the away side this draw.  The away side had Calvin Bassey sent off four minutes before that equaliser after he fouled Eddie Nketiah on the counter-attack. Before 3pm, the Emirates stadium was loud and boisterous before the match kicked off. However, that noise became an almost baffled silence.  Andreas Pereira got Fulham off to a flying start, scoring after just 57 seconds. A mesmerizing Bellingham assist enabled Harry Kane to score England's third as a result of England's classy play and intricate movement. An almost ruthless first half from Gareth Southgate's team offered a sobering reply. After a slick, composed and controlled performance, the visitors des...
