Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers has been called up to England's squad for the November Nations League matches, after eight players were forced to withdraw due to injury.

One of England's recent matches was a 3-1 win over Finland

Joining Rogers in interim manager Lee Carsley’s squad are West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento, and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Among the players sidelined are Chelsea's Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer, Arsenal's Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale.

England are set to face Greece on 14 November, followed by a match against the Republic of Ireland on 17 November.

Alexander-Arnold sustained an injury just 25 minutes into Liverpool’s win over Villa on Saturday. Saka also picked up a late knock in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday, with Rice forced off in the same match around the 71st minute.

Grealish, despite not featuring for Manchester City since 20 October, was still selected by Carsley—a choice that City manager Pep Guardiola criticised. Meanwhile, Ramsdale is expected to spend time on the sidelines with a suspected fractured finger, picked up during Southampton’s recent game against Wolves.

The reasons behind Foden, Palmer, and Colwill’s absences remain unclear, despite each of them playing a full 90 minutes over the weekend for their respective clubs.

Rogers, who was initially set to join the England Under-21s, has been promoted to the senior team for the first time following an impressive start to the season for Villa. The 22-year-old has scored three goals and provided two assists in 11 games under Unai Emery.

This will be Carsley’s last squad as interim manager before Thomas Tuchel takes over on a full-time basis in January 2025.

England captain unhappy with players withdrawing

Captain Harry Kane has reportedly said that he us unhappy with the number of players who have withdrawn from the latest England squad, and has apparently insisted "England comes before club".

This is an incredible statement for the England record goalscorer to make. It will be interesting to see if this changes the dynamics in the squad over the next few months, especially when the new manager takes over.
