Premier League: A pivotal day in the title race

Sunday 11th May was a pivotal day in the 2022/2023 title race

Let's explore the two matches that have almost decided the destination of the Premier League trophy.

Everton 0 - 3 Manchester City

Ilkay Gundogan was the star of the show for Manchester City in this match. The German midfielder was involved in all three of City's goals with a sublime flicked finish before providing the cross for Erling Haaland's close-range header.

The midfielder also curled in a glorious free-kick from the edge of the penalty area. In the end, this was a routine away for City.

The loss for Everton leaves them looking nervously over their shoulders with two games remaining, hovering just one point above the relegation zone.

Ryan, a Manchester City Season Ticket holder, told us: "This was an awesome result. We are well in the driving seat for the Premier League title now."

City's win meant that Arsenal had to win to keep any meaningful challenge going. It didn't go according to plan for The Gunners.

Arsenal 0 - 3 Brighton & Hove Albion

On what turned out to be a deeply frustrating day for Arsenal, Leandro Trossard hit the bar. Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka both then went close before Julio Enciso's close-range header put Brighton ahead.

Deniz Undav then doubled the lead for the away side after lobbing Aaron Ramsdale in the 86th minute before Pervis Estupinan added to Arsenal's misery with Brighton's third towards the end of stoppage time.

Daniel Jordan, an Arsenal fan from Dover, told us: "A poor performance from us, but we still managed to create some decent chances. It's just a pity the title has gone now, and we haven't taken it until the later part of the month."

For Brighton, this represents another successful day in a fantastic season. Their campaign has also seen them reach the FA-Cup semi-final and earn doubles over Manchester United and Chelsea.

Jacob, a Brighton Season Ticket holder, told us: "A fantastic performance. A perfect way to recover from last week's awful performance against Everton."
