PL News: Evans in talks to extend Manchester United stay

Manchester United are in talks with defender Jonny Evans over extending his stay at the club.

The 36-year-old returned to United last summer from Leicester City, eight years after his initial departure from Old Trafford.

The Northern Ireland international initially started training with the club during pre-season to maintain his fitness but was handed a one-year deal after impressing Erik ten Hag.

Evans went on to make 30 appearances last season, including a substitute appearance in the FA Cup win against Manchester City at Wembley.

Whether Evans stays or not, United are clearly in the market for a new defender. It has been reported that they are considering a move for Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah as they evaluate their options for next season.

What do Manchester United fans think?

Liam, a Manchester United Season Ticket holder, told us: "As a 5th choice centre-back, he's a good option for the club to have. There needs to be a couple of additional players brought in though."

Olivia, another United fan, added: "We still need to bring in a couple more players. However, I think Evans would be a good option for the club next season, especially with the extra matches in the Europa League."

Josh, a Manchester United fan from Middleton, said: "Evans proved his worth last season. His experience will be very useful. Especially if we sign younger players this summer and then progress in the Europa League next season.

On the RedCafe.net forum, one poster said: "I would actually be very happy for him to stay."
