PL News: 2024/2025 fixtures announced
The fixtures for the 2024/2025 Premier League season have been announced
What's happening on the opening weekend?
Newly promoted Ipswich Town will host Liverpool, while champions Manchester City will travel to Chelsea for the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.
Ipswich, returning to the top flight after a 22-year absence, will play on Saturday, 17 August. Their last Premier League match was a 5-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield on the final day of the 2001-02 season. Their relegation came just a year after they surprisingly finished fifth in the top flight.
Manchester City will begin their title defence at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, 18 August. This represents a great opportunity for Chelsea to show how much they have improved.
The season starts with Manchester United hosting Fulham at Old Trafford on Friday, 16 August. The weekend before the Premier League starts, United will face City in the Community Shield at Wembley.

Arsenal, who finished as runners-up to City last season, will play Wolves at home on the Saturday, while fourth-placed Aston Villa will travel to West Ham on the same day.
Southampton, the Championship play-off winners, will face Newcastle at St James' Park. Everton will host Brighton, and Nottingham Forest will take on Bournemouth to complete the Saturday fixtures.
Brentford will welcome Crystal Palace on Sunday, and Championship winners Leicester City will host Tottenham on Monday, 19 August.

Who has the easiest start?
Liverpool manager Arne Slot and his new side look to have the easiest start to the season. Four of their first five fixtures are against sides who finished either in the bottom half of the table last season. They also face sides who have just been promoted. With these sides though, players can potentially raise their game. You have to wonder if we'll see an early shock?

Key dates for all fans
The season starts on Friday, 16 August. It will conclude on Sunday, 25 May 2025, with all matches kicking off simultaneously.
The campaign will feature 33 weekends, four midweek rounds, and matches on Boxing Day. Teams won't play on New Years Day.
International breaks are scheduled for September, October, November, and March. The third round of the FA Cup will be held in the second weekend of January, rather than its traditional slot the weekend before.

To accommodate the mid-August start, there will be no winter break this season. The Christmas Eve fixture, which took place last season for the first time since 1995 when Wolves faced Chelsea, will not be repeated.
The Premier League has assured clubs that they will not be asked to play twice in less than 60 hours over the Christmas and New Year period.
