The 22-year-old centre-back has signed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga side after coming through the ranks at Liverpool.

Quansah was part of the England squad that lifted the European Under-21 Championship on Saturday, defeating Germany in the final.

His transfer marks the third deal between the two clubs this summer, following Liverpool’s signings of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.

Newcastle had shown interest in signing Quansah last summer as part of a proposed swap deal for Anthony Gordon, though Liverpool rejected the approach.

As a homegrown player, the fee from Leverkusen will be recorded as pure profit in Liverpool’s accounts under profit and sustainability regulations.

Quansah made 58 appearances for Liverpool, scoring three times. He helped the club win the League Cup in 2024 and made 13 league appearances last season as Arne Slot’s side secured the Premier League title.

Leverkusen's strategy

In previous transfer windows, Leverkusen have sold players like Kai Havertz and Moussa Diaby. A similar story follows this summer. However, after their historic Bundesliga title in 2024, maybe more players will sign for them.

This summer, they will plan to utilize the £116 million received from Wirtz’s transfer to Liverpool to support their player recruitment efforts. The aim is to build a team capable of competing for major honors and challenging Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, who hold a near-monopoly on the domestic league. The club's current recruitment strategy focuses on signing quality players who can deliver immediate results while having the potential for further development.

Following the appointment of new manager Erik ten Hag, Leverkusen has completed five signings: Mark Flekken, Abdoulaye Faye, Ibrahim Maza, Tim Oermann, and Axel Tape. The club aims to add more players to prepare for another title challenge after winning the league in 2024.
