Lee Carsley now hands the reins to Thomas Tuchel, who takes charge from 1 January. During his tenure, Carsley guided England to five wins in six matches, with his team delivering a commanding second-half display here after a lacklustre opening 45 minutes.

Harry Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot eight minutes into the second half. The England captain's brilliant through-ball set Jude Bellingham free, only for Bellingham to be brought down by Liam Scales, earning the defender a second yellow card and a sending-off.

What's the point of the UEFA Nations League?

With the Republic reduced to ten men, England took full advantage. Anthony Gordon netted his first senior international goal just two minutes later, tapping in at the far post after a defensive mix-up from debutant Tino Livramento's cross.

England continued to dominate as Conor Gallagher and substitute Jarrod Bowen also opened their accounts for the senior team. Gallagher capitalised on Marc Guehi’s flick from Noni Madueke's corner to score in the 58th minute, while Bowen made an instant impact with a clinical finish past Caoimhin Kelleher just 15 minutes from time.

The evening of milestones was capped off when Taylor Harwood-Bellis came on for his England debut. The young defender made it a night to remember, heading home emphatically to round off the scoring.

The best reaction

Lee Carsley ended his time as England's interim manager in the same way he started it. Victory over Ireland. It was a fantastic second-half performance from his side. eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com/search/label...

Lewis W, a Chelsea fan in Greater Manchester, spoke in detail about Carsley's time in charge. He said: "There have been some promising debutants during Carsley's brief time in charge. A few of these players have performed well in the Premier League and have now earned caps for their national teams. That would have been a great experience for them.

Liam C, a Manchester United fan, added: "That was a really good performance. I thought the way we started the game was good and we played with real intensity. From a fan perspective, It was frustrating to come off 0-0 at half-time but it looked they had the belief that we would score the goals."
