Germany: Tuchel to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season

Image
There has been some interesting news from Germany It has been announced that Manager Thomas Tuchel will be bidding farewell to Bayern Munich at the conclusion of this season. The 50-year-old stepped in for Julian Nagelsmann at the helm of the German champions in March 2023, signing on until June 2025.  The former Chelsea boss will now be departing a year earlier than anticipated, as part of what is described as a strategic shift in Bayern's sporting direction. Under his guidance, Bayern clinched last season's Bundesliga title after he assumed control in the spring. Nevertheless, they currently find themselves trailing leaders Bayer Leverkusen by eight points following consecutive league defeats. One of these setbacks was a resounding 3-0 loss to Leverkusen , compounded by a 1-0 defeat to Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 encounter. News: Tuchel announced as new England manager

Image
Thomas Tuchel has been named as England's new manager Author - William G The 51-year-old German has signed an 18-month contract which will start on January 1st 2025. This makes him the third non-British coach to take permanent charge of the men’s team, following in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello. Gareth Southgate stepped down from the role in July after England’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. Lee Carsley, who has overseen four matches as interim manager since his appointment in August, will continue to lead the team for their Nations League fixtures against Greece and the Republic of Ireland next month. The best man for the job? The FA's decision to appoint Thomas Tuchel as England manager will likely be seen by some as a betrayal of the widely promoted pathway from St George’s Park to the top. Is this a snub to homegrown coaching talent? Tuchel, a German, will replace Gareth Southgate, who held the role for eight years after previously mana...

England overcome stubborn Andorra

Image
Andorra 0 - 1 England  Harry Kane’s close-range finish was enough to hand England a narrow 1-0 win over Andorra and extend their unbeaten start to 2026 World Cup qualifying. Author | George B Stadium | RCDE Stadium Before the match, manager Thomas Tuchel had warned fans it might take time to break down a stubborn Andorra side, and that caution proved justified. England were booed off at half-time after failing to score against a team ranked 173rd in the world. The breakthrough came five minutes into the second half. Bayern Munich striker Kane reacted quickest when Curtis Jones' shot was parried, with Noni Madueke pouncing on the rebound and cutting the ball back for the England captain to convert from close range. Tuchel had opted for an adventurous line-up, with Liverpool’s Jones deployed at right-back and Reece James switching to the left. Despite dominating possession, England struggled to carve out meaningful chances. Jude Bellingham and Madueke were both denied by...

England suffer friendly defeat against Senegal

Image
England 1 - 3 Senegal We try to pull together some measured reaction and reporting after England lose in Nottingham. It's only a post season friendly that nobody will remember in three months.  Author | Kieran M Stadium | The City Ground England fell to their first defeat under Thomas Tuchel as Senegal claimed a thoroughly deserved win in a low-key friendly at the City Ground. It wasn't a good performance from Tuchel’s team, who were outplayed by confident and composed opponents. Senegal became the first African nation to beat England’s men, and did so with an assured display.  For Tuchel though, it did give him an opportunity to see a different group of players together. He would have learned a lot from this. A closer look at what happened The evening had started brightly for the hosts, who took the lead in the seventh minute when Harry Kane reacted quickest after Edouard Mendy spilled Anthony Gordon’s low effort. It was Kane’s 73rd goal for England. This would be the...

Author - Mark Lee Stadium - Wembley Stadium Just as in their previous match against Albania, England found themselves frustrated for long spells against a side ranked 140th in the world before finally converting dominance into goals. Chelsea captain Reece James marked his first England start since September 2022 with a superb free kick from 20 yards, curling the ball into the net seven minutes before half time. Despite controlling possession, England struggled to extend their lead as Latvia defended doggedly. That changed in the 68th minute when Harry Kane turned in his 71st international goal from Declan Rice’s cross.
