Analysis of Thomas Tuchel's best night as England manager

Image
Serbia 0 - 5 England analysis Thomas Tuchel spoke like a man who sensed his best night as England manager was coming the moment he touched down in Belgrade. Author | Josh D Goals from Harry Kane , Noni Madueke, Ezri Konsa , Marc Guehi and Marcus Rashford seal a wonderful night in Belgrade for the Three Lions. They have taken a huge step towards next summer’s World Cup. A much improved performance Questions over Tuchel 's methods had grown louder after Saturday’s laboured World Cup qualifying win against Andorra. It was a fourth straight competitive victory, yet one that ended with swathes of the Villa Park crowd heading for the exits long before full time. This was an emphatic response. Tuchel’s team produced a masterclass that dismantled Serbia in their own fortress, silencing a hostile crowd almost from the first whistle with a performance of complete dominance. Germany: Tuchel to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season

Image
There has been some interesting news from Germany It has been announced that Manager Thomas Tuchel will be bidding farewell to Bayern Munich at the conclusion of this season. The 50-year-old stepped in for Julian Nagelsmann at the helm of the German champions in March 2023, signing on until June 2025.  The former Chelsea boss will now be departing a year earlier than anticipated, as part of what is described as a strategic shift in Bayern's sporting direction. Under his guidance, Bayern clinched last season's Bundesliga title after he assumed control in the spring. Nevertheless, they currently find themselves trailing leaders Bayer Leverkusen by eight points following consecutive league defeats. One of these setbacks was a resounding 3-0 loss to Leverkusen , compounded by a 1-0 defeat to Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 encounter. News: Tuchel announced as new England manager

Image
Thomas Tuchel has been named as England's new manager Author - William G The 51-year-old German has signed an 18-month contract which will start on January 1st 2025. This makes him the third non-British coach to take permanent charge of the men’s team, following in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello. Gareth Southgate stepped down from the role in July after England’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. Lee Carsley, who has overseen four matches as interim manager since his appointment in August, will continue to lead the team for their Nations League fixtures against Greece and the Republic of Ireland next month. The best man for the job? The FA's decision to appoint Thomas Tuchel as England manager will likely be seen by some as a betrayal of the widely promoted pathway from St George’s Park to the top. Is this a snub to homegrown coaching talent? Tuchel, a German, will replace Gareth Southgate, who held the role for eight years after previously mana...

Image
England 3 - 0 Wales A fairly straightforward evening for England as they prepared for their upcoming qualifier against Latvia. Author | Lauren W Stadium | Wembley Stadium Head coach Thomas Tuchel kept faith with the squad that delivered his most emphatic victory, a 5-0 win over Serbia in Belgrade, and they produced another commanding performance. England overwhelmed Wales in the opening stages, taking a three-goal lead within 20 minutes. Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers extended his fine form from the Serbia game by converting Marc Guehi’s cross after just four minutes. Club team-mate Ollie Watkins, deputising for the injured captain Harry Kane, doubled England’s advantage from close range seven minutes later. Bukayo Saka then became Arsenal’s highest England goalscorer with a brilliant strike, curling his left-foot shot high past Wales goalkeeper Karl Darlow to register his 13th international goal. Rogers also struck the woodwork after the break. Although Wales improved as England’s t...

Author | Lauren W England's last qualifier away at Andorra Trent Alexander-Arnold has been omitted from Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad, which includes call-ups for uncapped players Elliot Anderson and Djed Spence. The right-back, who moved from Liverpool to Real Madrid over the summer, had been named in Tuchel's previous squad but will not feature for the World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia. Alexander-Arnold, 26, was also absent from the starting line-up in Real Madrid's 3-0 victory at Real Oviedo on Sunday. Nottingham Forest midfielder Anderson and Tottenham full-back Spence receive their first senior call-ups, while Everton winger Jack Grealish misses out despite impressing under the observation of Tuchel's assistant Anthony...

England overcome stubborn resistance from Andorra

Image
England 2 - 0 Andorra England overcame stubborn resistance from Andorra to record a fourth successive victory under head coach Thomas Tuchel in World Cup qualifiers. Author | Mark Lee Stadium | Villa Park In what was effectively a match of defence against attack, England once again laboured for long periods before finally making their quality count against the minnows ranked 174th in the world. Tuchel gave a debut to Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson , who was one of the more impressive performers in a largely drab encounter at Villa Park. England broke the deadlock after 25 minutes when Andorra defender Christian Garcia headed Noni Madueke 's cross past keeper Iker Alvarez into his own net. Andorra's defensive ranks held firm, helped by keeper Alvarez when he saved superbly from Anderson, until Declan Rice headed in Reece James ' fine cross at the far post after 67 minutes. England now move on to what will be the toughest test of Tuchel's reign so...

England overcome stubborn Andorra

Andorra 0 - 1 England  Harry Kane’s close-range finish was enough to hand England a narrow 1-0 win over Andorra and extend their unbeaten start to 2026 World Cup qualifying. Author | George B Stadium | RCDE Stadium Before the match, manager Thomas Tuchel had warned fans it might take time to break down a stubborn Andorra side, and that caution proved justified. England were booed off at half-time after failing to score against a team ranked 173rd in the world. The breakthrough came five minutes into the second half. Bayern Munich striker Kane reacted quickest when Curtis Jones' shot was parried, with Noni Madueke pouncing on the rebound and cutting the ball back for the England captain to convert from close range. Tuchel had opted for an adventurous line-up, with Liverpool’s Jones deployed at right-back and Reece James switching to the left. Despite dominating possession, England struggled to carve out meaningful chances. Jude Bellingham and Madueke were both denied by...

TUCHEL VS CONTE: ROUND TWO!!! 🤬🤬 pic.twitter.com/XhWuOU4fwD — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) August 14, 2022 Tottenham rescued an undeserved draw through Harry Kane’s deflected header and there was scant chance, given what had passed, that Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte would part ways with smiles and invitations for a post-match beer.  The sight of the pair clashing for a second time after the final whistle, eyes bulging and throats bawling, was astonishing by any measure and will keep the FA’s disciplinarians fully occupied in the e...

England suffer friendly defeat against Senegal

Image
England 1 - 3 Senegal We try to pull together some measured reaction and reporting after England lose in Nottingham. It's only a post season friendly that nobody will remember in three months.  Author | Kieran M Stadium | The City Ground England fell to their first defeat under Thomas Tuchel as Senegal claimed a thoroughly deserved win in a low-key friendly at the City Ground. It wasn't a good performance from Tuchel’s team, who were outplayed by confident and composed opponents. Senegal became the first African nation to beat England’s men, and did so with an assured display.  For Tuchel though, it did give him an opportunity to see a different group of players together. He would have learned a lot from this. A closer look at what happened The evening had started brightly for the hosts, who took the lead in the seventh minute when Harry Kane reacted quickest after Edouard Mendy spilled Anthony Gordon’s low effort. It was Kane’s 73rd goal for England. This would be the...
