Transfer News: Chelsea sign Cole Palmer

Chelsea announce another signing

They have announced the signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City in a deal worth £40m, with £2.5m in add-ons.

Palmer signs for Chelsea

The attacking midfielder can play in several positions and has signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea.

Palmer made over 40 appearances for the Premier League champions across all competitions after coming through their youth set-up.

It has already been a busy season for the 21-year-old and many anticipated this to be his breakthrough season at his boyhood club.  Already this season, he has scored a memorable goal in the Community Shield against Arsenal last month and also scored in the UEFA Super Cup victory over Sevilla.

One of their own. Was this a sad loss for Man City fans?

Mckenzie is a City fan, he was sad and upset with this news: "I have a lingering sense that Chelsea has brought in an absolutely fantastic footballer. He has effortless grace, he's floating past opponents as smoothly as a gentle breeze on a sunny day.

"There's some real magic in those boots. Whether Chelsea is the perfect fit for him is still up in the air, especially with the resurgence of Raheem Sterling on the right side. Chelsea have a crowded team with what feels like a million other senior players, so he might blend into the mix and not shone. One thing remains crystal clear, he's got the raw talent to defy the odds and make his mark."

Ed, also a City fan, had a similar view, he added: "Watching an academy player leave is always a bit of a tough pill to swallow, especially when they've been part of the club since day one. I can't speak for all City fans, but I'll tell you, it stings for me.

"I've watching this incredibly talented player's journey for years as he worked his way up from the academy. It wasn't an easy path, let me tell you that, but it felt like destiny was finally knocking on his door, and his shot at the first team was right there, within reach."

Chelsea fans seem happy with the signing

Lewis, a Chelsea fan from Rochdale in Greater Manchester, said: "There's been some interest for sometime regarding Cole Palmer, and every club would have been looking at him because of his ability and what he can do, so there's no surprise we liked him. I really like the player and genuinely feel like he can find a starting point in this team and be a key player for us this season as we try and get back in Europe."
