Premier League: Keane stunner boosts Everton survival hopes

Everton 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

For the best part of an hour, this was a poor match as both Everton and Spurs struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities in the final third.

Everton 1 - 1 Spurs

The last thirty minutes was very different.

Harry Kane was soon in the thick of the action when he challenged Demarai Gray on the halfway line, an incident to which Doucoure took exception.

A few pushes were exchanged before the Everton midfielder put his hand into the face of Kane. The England captain went tumbling to the turf and referee David Coote brandished a straight red. A few people were critical of Kane, suggesting that he went down too easily.

The England captain shrugged off the incident to open the scoring 10 minutes later from the penalty spot. He sent international team-mate Jordan Pickford the wrong way to register his 15th league goal against Everton.

Spurs substitute Lucas Moura was also sent off for a nasty challenge on Keane. The former Burnley player then shook off the knock to smash in the equaliser. This sparked some incredible scenes at Goodison Park.

The point lifts Everton three places up to 15th and gives their survival hopes a huge lift.

Fight for survival

Last season's fight to stay in the Premier League went to the last game of the season. It would take a brave man to bet against a similar situation happening this season.  Only four points separates the bottom seven sides.

At the other end of the table, the late goal from Keane has put a potentially huge dent in Tottenham's chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

You can watch the late stunner in the video below.

The best reaction from the fans

James and Sarah are both Everton fans. They said: "Wow, what an incredible night. That point could be so important for us."

Ian added: "The man in charge has instilled a mentality in this team that we haven't seen since the Moyes years. The two late goals in the last two games show the development in the team."

Ewan Short commented on a YouTube video of the goal: "The technique on that tells you everything you need to know. That was no fluke."

Maggie was less happy with the performance and we think she speaks for a lot of Spurs fans: "To be honest, I just want this season to end. It's a pity, we were so hopeful at the start of the season."

Peter was really unhappy with the performance. He added: "We have a group of selfish players who lack the desire and attitude yet again to see out a victory against a team that still faces a battle against relegation."

Mark added simply: "We have a team full of cowards."
