Scotland: Dundee derby proves to be a thriller

Image
Dundee United 2 - 2 Dundee Dundee twice came from behind to deny Dundee United a victory in their Scottish Premiership return, as the first city derby in over two years lived up to its billing as the game of the weekend. There was a fantastic atmosphere created by both sets of fans. After a dull start on Saturday with two 0-0 draws, three early goals set the new top-flight season ablaze. Dundee gave their hosts a guard of honour before last season's Championship flag was raised, then left Kristijan Trapanovski plenty of space to slot the opener after just 13 minutes. Seb Palmer-Houlden equalised from close range five minutes later, but Miller Thomson restored United's lead with a similar finish—all within the first 15 minutes of the game. United deserved their lead, but Dundee finished stronger in a thrilling end that saw a Luke McCowan penalty 11 minutes from time. Dundee United now remain unbeaten in seven derbies , while Dundee have not won at Tannadice in their last 13

Scotland: Celtic eventually ease to win over Dundee

Dundee 0 - 3 Celtic Paulo Bernardo and Mikey Johnston emerged as the unexpected goal heroes for Celtic in their match against Dundee.  However, there is now a concern about Cameron Carter‑Vickers' injury ahead of the upcoming clash with Rangers at Parkhead on Saturday. Bernardo slotted in the opening goal in the 52nd minute at Dens Park, marking his inaugural goal for Celtic. Johnston, coming on as a substitute, netted his first two goals for the Hoops since December 2019, securing a 3-0 victory. Despite leading by five points, the champions face a challenge from Rangers, who have two games in hand, including their midweek match against Ross County at Ibrox on Wednesday. Manager Rodgers stuck with the same starting lineup from the 2-0 win against Livingston. Dundee, on the other hand, had Cammy Kerr in for the absent Ricki Lamie, and Zak Rudden returned as one of the two strikers. Celtic took control early on without breaking down Dundee's defence. Scotland: Celtic remain in charge of title race

Image
Dundee 1 - 2 Celtic A double from James Forrest helped Celtic beat Dundee and maintained their three-point Scottish Premiership lead. A screen grab from a Twitter video showing Celtic players celebrating. Forrest marked his return to the Celtic starting line-up with a stunning first-half volley from the edge of the box and low drive midway through the second period. Dundee got back into the game after Adam Idah deflected an Antonio Portales shot past Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart. Despite some late pressure, they were unable to deny the visitors victory. Despite another win for Rangers, the title is still Celtic's to lose with four rounds of fixtures to play and the Old Firm still to meet.  Dundee remain two points behind fifth-placed St Mirren and remain in contention for a Europa Conference qualifying place. Should they achieve that, it would surely be the best season in their recent history.  You can find out what the Celtic manager thought by watching the video below. The int

Pressure builds on Rangers boss

Rangers 1 - 1 Dundee United Vaclav Černy’s equaliser cancelled out Sam Dalby’s opener, but Rangers couldn’t find the winning goal that would have brought them within six points of Aberdeen and six clear of United. Author - Mark Lee Although this was the first time Rangers have dropped points at Ibrox this season, it’s another setback in their campaign. They've now let 13 points slip across their opening 12 league matches and sit 11 points adrift of leaders Celtic. The match began with Černy and Nico Raskin forcing early saves from Jack Walton, while Nedim Bajrami’s curling effort was tipped wide by the United keeper. Dundee United were well-drilled and disciplined and gradually grew into the game. Vicko Sevelj’s pinpoint deep cross found Dalby unmarked, and the striker headed past the exposed Jack Butland to give the visitors a shock lead. It could have gone from bad to worse for Rangers when Dalby got into a promising shooting position, only for his low effort to be blocked by

Scotland: Celtic close to another title

Kilmarnock 1 - 4 Celtic Celtic are now only seven points away from retaining the Scottish Premiership after a ruthless first-half performance saw them easily win against Kilmarnock. The away raced into a stunning four-goal lead inside 27 minutes against hapless the hapless home side. Some calamitous defending compounded the home side's woe, gifting the league leaders an excess of chances, which were gobbled up by Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Matt O'Riley during a rampant first period. Fraser Murray's back pass was pounced on by Kyogo to open the scoring. Maeda troubled the visitors' advantage with a well-timed header five minutes later. With Kilmarnock in disarray, the killer blow was dealt when O'Riley profited from Joe Wright's mistake, tucking a neat strike inside the post, before being found by a pinpoint Greg Taylor pass and rifling into the far corner. Kyogo also missed a great chance to add to his mounting goal tally when hitting the post from t

Scottish Premiership: All the Boxing Day action

Image
Despite reduced crowds, there were plenty of goals on an action-packed Boxing Day in the Scottish Premiership. St Johnstone 1 - 3 Celtic Celtic emerged from a "chaotic couple of days" to inflict St Johnstone's eighth consecutive defeat. Two goals from Liel Abada's first-half double had the visitors in total command until Chris Kane halved the deficit. Nir Bitton eventually put the result beyond doubt when he scored a late third to send Celtic into the winter break six points adrift of leaders Rangers who won later in the day. One Celtic fan told us: "It was a solid performance. Scotland: Celtic thrash Motherwell in League Cup

Image
Motherwell 0 -  4 Celtic It was a very comfortable night for Celtic. Celtic cruised through to the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup and a meeting with Kilmarnock after Liel Abada's double helped them thrash Motherwell. Abada tapped home Greg Taylor's cross moments before the break, and then stuck a side-foot volley past goalkeeper Liam Kelly after it. The Israeli winger then turned provider for Reo Hatate, before his shot off a post fell to Kyogo Furuhashi to tap home Celtic's fourth, as they eased into the last four. Ange Postecoglou's side will face Kilmarnock at Hampden on the weekend of 14-15 January. They are seeking a seventh League Cup success in nine seasons. Rangers will meet Aberdeen in the other semi-final. Scotland: Celtic win first Glasgow Derby of the season

Image
Rangers 0 - 1 Celtic Brendan Rodgers responded to questions about his second spell at Celtic with a statement win in what was a controversial Glasgow Derby.  Kyogo Furuhashi once again delivered the decisive moment, taking advantage of a poor defence just before half-time to score.  The winning goal goal came after a strike from Rabbi Matondo was disallowed for offside in the first minute.  Before the match, Michael Beale has stressed the importance of 'setting a milestone' after Wednesday's humiliating Champions League defeat at Eindhoven, but the pressure will now rest on the Ibrox boss, who has not only one win in six derbies.  Rangers fans created a memorable atmosphere at Ibrox in the build up to the match but they fell silent once they went 1-0 up.  UCL: PSV thrash Rangers Celtic's defence wasn't at full strength and included central defenders Lagerbielke and Liam Scales making their Old Firm debut. ECQ: Spain and Scotland qualify for Euro 2024

Image
Norway 0 - 1 Spain  Spain and Scotland have qualified from Group A and will take part in Euro 2024. With a win in Norway on Sunday, Spain secured a spot at Euro 2024, as well as helping Scotland qualify from Group A. In the second half, Barcelona midfielder Gavi scored to help the 2008 and 2012 European champions advance to the championships with two games left of qualifying.  Erling Haaland's Norway last appeared at a major tournament in Euro 2000, can now only potentially qualify through play-offs.  On the night, Spain barely allowed Manchester City striker Haaland a sniff all night long on what turned into a frustrating night for the Norwegians.  Gavi eventually fired Spain into the lead just after half-time. The midfielder pounced in Norway's area when Mikel Oyarzabal's shot was deflected into his path and gave him a straightforward goal.  Quick reaction from Norway and Spain Ronnie from Oslo is unhappy with the fact that Norway haven't finished in the top of t

UEL reaction: Ferencvárosi TC 2 - 3 Celtic

Celtic picked up a crucial Europa League victory against Ferencvaros in Budapest. The Glasgow side moved a point behind Real Betis, who were thrashed 4-0 at Bayer Leverkusen, with two games to play in the group. The Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou told BT Sport: "Full credit to the boys. It was three great goals, I thought we could have had a couple more. I'm disappointed at conceding the second goal as I don't think it was a true reflection of how we played tonight. "The fact we can get three goals away from home is because we just go at teams. I still think that is the way forward. It's the kind of team we want to be and I think it's the team our supporters want us to be." One Celtic fan told us: "After some of the appalling performances last season, this campaign has been a breath of fresh air. We are looking superb at times and we could easily progress to the next stage of this competition." Another spoke with great passion about their man
