Championship: South Wales derby ends in a draw

Image
Swansea City 1 - 1 Cardiff City Callum Robinson came off the bench to rescue a point for Cardiff City with a late equaliser against arch-rivals Swansea City, securing their first point of the season in the South Wales derby. Liam Cullen had ignited the already charged atmosphere by putting the Swans ahead after just 10 minutes, capitalising on a rebound after Ronald’s volley was parried by Ethan Horvath. Cardiff seemed destined for a sixth derby defeat in seven matches after a lacklustre first-half performance, but manager Erol Bulut's substitutions sparked a significant improvement, leading to Robinson’s well-crafted equaliser. The 79th-minute goal shifted the mood inside the Swansea.com Stadium. Although the Bluebirds couldn’t find a winner, this draw will have felt like a small victory after their tough start to the season, having lost their first two games with a combined score of 7-0. This was the first draw between the two teams since 2020 and a relatively subdued affai

EFL: Saints continue impressive form

Image
Swansea City 1 - 3 Southampton Southampton set a new club record with an unbeaten streak of 21 games, as they secured a 3-1 victory in Russell Martin's return to Swansea City.  The Saints are now well in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League.  Che Adams opened the scoring just six minutes into the game, slotting home from close range. The momentum continued to shift in Southampton's favour as Will Smallbone tapped in their second goal. However, Swansea managed to pull one back against the run of play with a Jamie Paterson header. The Saints then swiftly regained control, with Flynn Downes' 20-yard drive deflecting into the net. Despite Swansea's late rally , including Jerry Yates and Paterson hitting the woodwork, Southampton comfortably held on to secure three points. This impressive unbeaten run in all competitions surpassed their previous record of a 20-game sequence set in 1921. For Southampton boss Russell Martin, this victory held particular

Championship reaction: Swansea City 1 - 1 Blackpool

Blackpool claimed a Championship point thanks to Keshi Anderson's late equaliser at Swansea City. Joel Piroe's goal had looked set to give Swansea a fifth straight home win. In a game of not many chances, Anderson prodded home to extend Blackpool's unbeaten away run.  Highlights Watch the highlights in the video below. One Blackpool fan commented: "Looks like Swansea had a good shout for one penalty the other a bit soft. VAR in the championship would have given it.  Saying that it would have probably meant another five points for us from the Stoke and QPR games so win some lose some and today fir a change we got away with it. What I do like is this new Blackpool team never give up. Well done Neil!" All the reaction After the match, Swansea head coach Russell Martin told the media: "The best thing about the first half was the goal. We got to the box and didn't go for the jugular because they didn't feel it was the right moment.  "There were a

EFL: Another twist in the promotion race

Leicester City 1 - 1 Ipswich Town Jeremy Sarmiento scored a late equaliser against Championship leaders Leicester City at the King Power Stadium and guided his Ipswich team back into the coveted automatic promotion spots. Initially, Leicester seemed on the verge of extending their lead by 10 points , courtesy of an own goal by Leif Davis in the first half. The second half had more excitement, featuring Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen's spectacular save from Wes Burns and Kasey McAteer's valiant effort cleared off the line at the other end. When Hermansen could only parry a Massimo Luongo shot in the area, Brighton loanee Sarmiento seized the opportunity, swiftly scoring a shot that eluded the Danish goalkeeper. This marked the second time in four weeks that Ipswich snatched a late draw against Leicester, following a similar feat on Boxing Day at Portman Road. The draw this time elevated Ipswich above Southampton, reclaiming second place, while Leicester maintained a seven-poi

In the first shootout for Wales' men in a competitive match, Daniel James had his kick saved by Wojciech Szczesny. Poland converted all five. The 38-year-old took over the managerial role on 11 October following the contentious choice to remove John Eustace , with the team positioned sixth in the table at that time. However, the team's performance has seen a decline, now standing at 20th place. The recent 3-0 defeat to Leeds on Monday marked the ninth loss during Rooney's 15-game tenure. Sporting 4 - 1 Manchester City New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim marked his final home game with Sporting by delivering one of his greatest triumphs, inflicting a third straight defeat on Manchester City. Author - Macca This was City’s heaviest loss since September 2020 and only the second time Pep Guardiola has suffered three consecutive defeats in a single season during his trophy-filled tenure. To add to City’s misery, star forward Erling Haaland smashed a second-half penalty against the crossbar. Sporting’s own Scandinavian star, Viktor Gyökeres, played a leading role with a fantastic hat-trick. He levelled Phil Foden’s early opener in the 38th minute, then held his nerve to score twice more from the spot in the second half. The first penalty followed a disastrous start to the second half for City, as Sporting took the lead just seconds after the restart when Maximiliano Araújo latched onto a through ball and struck a precise shot into the corner. Fans voices: Why do we love football?

If you want to get involved, please message us on Twitter and we'll respond as soon as possible. My first United game was the last watched by the old Stretford End. We beat Tottenham 3-1 and was mesmerised by the sights and sounds. In the previous weeks, we had thrown away a lead at the top of old First Division and lost the title to Leeds United. My dad knew this would be my first game and thought it would be a title party, sadly he was mistaken. We only had to wait another year to finally clinch the title and we were both there as we celebrated winning the first-ever Premier League. I was slightly older so was able to appreciate things a bit more. Little did my and my dad know though but football was about to change forever. Domination but at what cost?
