Author - William G Having won their first seven matches, the Reds twice took the lead in the Netherlands but were pegged back, conceding twice late in the first half of their final group fixture. However, with Barcelona failing to beat Atalanta, Arne Slot’s side finished top of the standings on 21 points, two clear of their nearest challengers. The first half was full of action, with Cody Gakpo putting Liverpool ahead from the penalty spot against his former club after Federico Chiesa was fouled by Joey Veerman. Mohamed Salah was denied six times by Courtois who was simply unbeatable. Real were always a threat and the decisive moment came after 59 minutes when Vinicius stole in unmarked at the far post to score. The victory also sees Carlo Ancelotti make history by becoming the first coach to win a fourth Champions League title. Some of the best reaction The Liverpool boss spoke about the result and his side's performance : "After the game when I saw the stats it was 50-50 possession. AtlĂ©tico Madrid 0 - 0 Manchester City (Agg:0-1) City produced a  disciplined performance to hold off the challenge of Atletico Madrid - and set up a Champions League semi-final showdown with the Spanish side's city rivals Real. Knowing a clean sheet would be enough to seal the tie, City kept their cool in the face of a hostile home crowd and intimidation from a physical Atleti side showing far more ambition than in the first leg. The Manchester City boss told BT Sport: "It is the champion of Spain and they played with energy. Overall we are in the semi-finals, it is well deserved. The opponent is so tough, all the teams in the Champions League come here and suffer so it is important we go through." Tough and intense one, but we withstood it well! UCL: AC Milan 1 - 2 Liverpool

Image
Liverpool became the first English side to win six Champions League group games as they picked up a victory over AC Milan in Italy. Jurgen Klopp made several changes with qualification for the last 16 already assured as group winners. However, the Serie A leaders went in search of the win they hoped would secure their own passage into the last 16. Milan's hopes rose on the half-hour when Takumi Minamino missed a near-post corner and goalkeeper Alisson could only push the ball out to Fikayo Tomori, who then scored from close range. Despite all the changes, Mohamed Salah was stikl in the starting line-up and once again demonstrated his ability with an equaliser that came seven minutes later. He put home the rebound after Milan keeper Mike Maignan saved from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. It means Salah has became the first Liverpool player since Ian Rush to score 20 goals in five successive seasons. The away side continued to dominate and Divock Origi scored his first goal in the competi...

UCL: Real Madrid win the Champions League again

Image
Borussia Dortmund 0- 2 Real Madrid Real Madrid overcame a formidable challenge from underdogs Borussia Dortmund to secure the Champions League title at Wembley. Carlo Ancelotti made history once again with his fifth win as a manager in the competition, while Real Madrid claimed their 15th title in typical fashion. A brief summary of the match Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi missed two chances in the first half, and striker Niclas Fullkrug struck the post. Manchester United 0-1 Atlético (aggregate 1-2) Renan Lodi headed the only goal against Manchester United to edge Atlético into the last eight The first half was high on endeavour but low on chances. João Félix did have the ball in the net for the visitors, but Marcos Llorente had strayed offside before teeing up the Portuguese striker. It proved a short reprieve for United. João Félix's back-heel released Antoine Griezmann, who stood up an inviting cross to the far post for Renan Lodi to head in. The Red Devils increased the pressure after the break, and nearly levelled when Jadon Sancho's ferocious volley fizzed just over. Raphaël Varane thought he had forced extra time with a thumping header from Alex Telles' free-kick, but Oblak continued his stunning resistance as Atlético dug in to see out the remaining t...
