Image
Goals from Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi secured Liverpool's place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. This came at the expense of a resolute Preston North End side at Deepdale. You can watch Liverpool conquer the Championship side in the video below. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp named an entirely different Liverpool side to the one which thrashed Manchester United 5-0 on Sunday. Despite dominating possession for long periods of the match, it was Preston who fashioned the best opportunities in the first 45 minutes.  Klopp then brought on Conor Bradley and pushed Williams forward and the change had the desired impact on Liverpool and the performance. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's drive from the edge of the box. This was the closest the subdued they had gone before Minamino's opener. Liverpool were ultimately able to see out the tie in comfort when Origi flicked home from close range with a wonderful improvised finish after being set up by Williams as the Klopp's booked t

PL News: Slot confirmed as Liverpool manager

Image
Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has been announced as Liverpool's new boss. In April, Liverpool struck a deal with the Dutch club after deciding the 45-year-old Slot was the right person to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. Klopp, who had been at the helm since October 2015, departed following Liverpool's season-ending victory over Wolves on Sunday. After the match, the 56-year-old German urged Liverpool supporters to back their new manager, leading a chant of "Arne Slot, na na na na na". Slot will officially begin his three-year tenure at Liverpool on 1 June, pending a work permit. During his time at Feyenoord, Slot guided the team to the Eredivisie title in the 2022-23 seaso n, and this year they won the Dutch Cup and finished as league runners-up. Liverpool were particularly impressed by Slot's attacking style, his personality, and his ability to develop players, which made him their top candidate. Transfer Rumour: Liverpool ramp up interest in Raphinha

Image
Liverpool are reportedly ramping up interest in £60million Leeds winger Raphinha With Sadio Mane set to leave Anfield this summer, Liverpool believes Raphinha could be the ideal replacement.  A report in the Mirror has suggested that backup attacker Takumi Minamino could be the bait to lure the Brazilian to Merseyside. Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the speedy 25-year-old attacker who scored 11 Premier League goals and grabbed three assists despite a poor season for Leeds.  Raphinha is also on Barcelona's wanted list. He is currently on international duty with Brazil, fits the bill perfectly for Liverpool's high energy style under Klopp. The Liveropool manager may have an ace up his sleeve in getting this deal done. Leeds are slowly rebuilding under American coach Jesse Marsch after their narrow relegation escape. They are keen on Minamino who joined Liverpool in a £7.25million deal in January 2020. The 27-year-old Japanese international was only a squad player last season. He

UCL: Liverpool thrashed and facing trophyless season

Liverpool 2 - 5 Real Madrid Liverpool are facing a season without a trophy after being thrashed by Real Madrid in the first leg of their last 16 tie. Holders Real - who beat Liverpool in last season's final in Paris - became the first side to score five at Anfield in Europe despite going two goals down early on as Liverpool made a dream start to this last-16 tie. UCL: Real Madrid win Champions League (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Darwin Nunez's brilliant flick put Liverpool ahead after only four minutes before Mohamed Salah cashed in on Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois' awful clearance to double their lead around 10 minutes later. It then all started to go very wrong Vinicius Junior's superb strike after 21 minutes pulled a goal back before Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson hacked a clearance straight at the Brazilian, holding his head in anguish as the ball looped behind him into the net in front of a shocked Kop End. It was at this point when Will, a Liverpool fan f

Premier League: United battle to hold Liverpool

Image
Liverpool 0 - 0 Manchester United Manchester United provided a much-needed boost to manager Erik ten Hag's morale by securing a hard-fought draw against Liverpool at Anfield.  This came at a crucial time when the team was grappling with a sense of crisis following a heavy home defeat to Bournemouth and a lacklustre Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich . Despite facing adversity and an injury-hit squad, United managed to halt their recent decline, albeit with a less-than-stellar performance.  The match, marred by mediocrity, saw Diogo Dalot being sent off for dissent in stoppage time. Nevertheless, Ten Hag had reasons to smile, contrasting with the disappointment felt by Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, whose team missed an opportunity to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League. United goalkeeper Andre Onana made a crucial save in the first half, denying Virgil van Dijk, while Rasmus Hojlund had a promising chance in the second half, only to be thwarted by Liverp

Premier League: Bournemouth boost their survival chances

Image
AFC Bournemouth 1 - 0  Liverpool Mohamed Salah's awful penalty miss helped Bournemouth climb out of the relegation zone after an excellent win that damaged Liverpool's chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League. PL reaction: Liverpool 7 - 0 Manchester United Back down to earth with a bump Jurgen Klopp's were brought back down to earth after last week's 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United as the Cherries did their survival chances a power of good. Liverpool were punished for poor defending when the unmarked Philip Billing struck after fine work by Dango Ouattara. Virgil van Dijk had a header cleared off the line at 0-0 and substitute Diogo Jota was denied by Neto's fine save. This was before Liverpool won a penalty when the Portugal forward's header was handled by Adam Smith. However, Salah blazed the penalty wide much to the delight of Bournemouth's fans. While the win ensured Bournemouth finished the day 17th, Liverpool missed the chanc

PL: Leicester City get revenge on Liverpool

Image
Leicester City 1 - 0 Liverpool Ademola Lookman scored the only goal of the match as Leicester City beat Liverpool. This leaves the Reds six points off the top of the Premier League table. Liverpool's best chances came in the first half when Mohamed Salah had a penalty saved by Kasper Schmeichel and the Egyptian headed the rebound off the bar. Sadio Mane then wasted a couple of chances for Jurgen Klopp's side. The 2020 Premier League champions were made to pay by the hosts in the 59th minute. Lookman, with only his fourth touch after coming on, took Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's pass in his stride, beat Liverpool's Joel Matip and fired a shot past Alisson. This was Leicester's only shot on target. Leicester hung on despite the relentless late Liverpool pressure. This all came just six days after blowing a 3-1 lead to lose on penalties against the same opposition in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. This result was all the more remarkable given the home side's

FA Cup: United and Liverpool play out a classic

Image
Manchester United 4 - 3 Liverpool Manchester United secured their spot in the FA Cup semi-final after a dramatic 4-3 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford. Before the game, everyone was talking about how strong Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool team was, but from the start, it was United who came out swinging with some serious attacking moves. Just 10 minutes in, Alejandro Garnacho took a shot that got deflected, Caoimhin Kelleher tried to save it, but it ended up right in the path of Scott McTominay. Old Trafford erupted.  Liverpool fought back hard , and just before halftime, they managed to sneak in a couple of goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah, putting them at half-time. The second half was tense, with both teams hunting for that next crucial goal. It wasn't until the home side made some attacking changes, thanks to Ten Hag's tactical moves, that the home side started to put some pressure. They finally found the equaliser. Antony, coming off the bench, save

PL reaction: Liverpool thrash Manchester United again

Liverpool 4 - 0 Manchester United Liverpool outclassed Manchester United in a one-sided affair at Anfield. Another Anfield night to remember ✨ pic.twitter.com/jTAYKN33bo — Liverpool FC (@LFC) April 20, 2022 It was also an illustration of the giant task facing the next United manager as they were run ragged by the Liverpool powerhouse, the gulf in quality and attitude between the sides a chasm. Liverpool were 1-0 up after only a few minutes. Luis Diaz put home Salah's pass before the Egyptian ended his eight-game goalless sequence from Sadio Mane's brilliant pass after 22 minutes. Mane ended any slim hopes United had of making this a challenging evening for Liverpool with a first-time finish from Diaz's pass in the 69th minute before Salah completed the rout with five minutes left. After their 5-0 win at Old Trafford in October , Liverpool are the f

Premier League: Forest stun Liverpool

Image
Liverpool 0 - 1 Nottingham Forest Callum Hudson-Odoi and an unbeaten Nottingham Forest shocked Liverpool at Anfield, putting an end to Arne Slot's flawless start as Liverpool manager. Coming off the bench, Hudson-Odoi cut in from the left and curled a perfectly placed shot into the far bottom corner, leaving Alisson with no chance. This marked Forest's first win at Anfield in any competition since 1969. Liverpool had come into the game brimming with confidence, having secured three consecutive wins without conceding a goal. And the home side certainly had the better opportunities in the first half. Luis Diaz came closest for the hosts before the break, chasing down what seemed a lost cause, cutting inside, and smashing a shot against the near post from a tight angle. Forest keeper Matz Sels made an important save to deny Alexis Mac Allister's header and had a lucky escape when he almost let Diaz’s shot slip into his own net moments later. After the break, Forest showed

UCL: AC Milan 1 - 2 Liverpool

Image
Liverpool became the first English side to win six Champions League group games as they picked up a victory over AC Milan in Italy. Jurgen Klopp made several changes with qualification for the last 16 already assured as group winners. However, the Serie A leaders went in search of the win they hoped would secure their own passage into the last 16. Milan's hopes rose on the half-hour when Takumi Minamino missed a near-post corner and goalkeeper Alisson could only push the ball out to Fikayo Tomori, who then scored from close range. Despite all the changes, Mohamed Salah was stikl in the starting line-up and once again demonstrated his ability with an equaliser that came seven minutes later. He put home the rebound after Milan keeper Mike Maignan saved from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. It means Salah has became the first Liverpool player since Ian Rush to score 20 goals in five successive seasons. The away side continued to dominate and Divock Origi scored his first goal in the competi

Pep Guardiola's side needed a win to secure their fourth title in five seasons, but were facing the prospect of ending the season empty-handed as goals either side of the interval from Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho put Villa 2-0 ahead and in control. It looked as if Villa manager Steven Gerrard might help his former club Liverpool secure the title, until City turned the game on its head in an atmosphere bordering on hysteria. Ilkay Gundogan gave City hope with a far-post header in the 76th minute. Etihad Stadium was a wall of noise when Rodri drove a low finish past Villa keeper Robin Olsen two minutes later.  Manchester United 2 - 2 Liverpool "I genuinely feared that we'd be beaten heavily by Liverpool again. I was pleasantly surprised by the result, especially after the first 45 minutes." The Anfield side missed numerous chances and were dominating the hosts for long periods. The away side only had a Luis Diaz strike to show for almost total first-half superiority in which they had 15 shots to none from United. The United boss Erik Ten Hag would have been thankful for the visitors' wastefulness and saves from keeper
