Transfer News: Chelsea sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Image
Chelsea's rebuild continues with another new signing. Chelsea have secured the signing of midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City for £30 million. The 25-year-old, who came through Leicester’s academy, has committed to a six-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2030. Dewsbury-Hall will be reunited with manager Enzo Maresca, who took charge at Chelsea this summer after leading Leicester to the Championship title last season. Last season, Dewsbury-Hall was in outstanding form, netting 12 goals and providing 12 assists in 44 league matches. His performances earned him both Leicester’s Player of the Season and Players' player of the Season awards. He becomes Chelsea's fourth summer signing, following the free transfer of defender Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, the £19 million transfer of midfielder Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa, and the £5 million acquisition of teenage forward Marc Guiu from Barcelona. EFL: Foxes start season with a win

Image
Leicester City 2 - 1 Coventry City Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall struck two late goals as the relegated Foxes began their life back in the Championship by beating Coventry City. Last season's beaten Championship play-off finalists looked on course for three points when they led through Kyle McFadzean's 47th-minute opener from a corner. The Gus Hamer-inspired Sky Blues also wasted good chances either side of the City skipper's strike. They often looked the better side and really should have made it 2-0. Mark Robins' men were eventually made to pay when Dewsbury-Hall levelled on 77 minutes before being fed by new signing Stephy Mavididi to curl home an 87th-minute winner - and earn victory for new Foxes boss Enzo Maresca, in his first game in charge. Mark Robins will have seen enough from his side to give him positive thoughts and a lot of confidence for the next 45 league matches. Find more news from the English Football League here. PL: Leicester City get revenge on Liverpool

Image
Leicester City 1 - 0 Liverpool Ademola Lookman scored the only goal of the match as Leicester City beat Liverpool. This leaves the Reds six points off the top of the Premier League table. Liverpool's best chances came in the first half when Mohamed Salah had a penalty saved by Kasper Schmeichel and the Egyptian headed the rebound off the bar. Sadio Mane then wasted a couple of chances for Jurgen Klopp's side. The 2020 Premier League champions were made to pay by the hosts in the 59th minute. Lookman, with only his fourth touch after coming on, took Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's pass in his stride, beat Liverpool's Joel Matip and fired a shot past Alisson. This was Leicester's only shot on target. Leicester hung on despite the relentless late Liverpool pressure. This all came just six days after blowing a 3-1 lead to lose on penalties against the same opposition in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. This result was all the more remarkable given the home side's ...

EFL: Another twist in the promotion race

Image
Leicester City 1 - 1 Ipswich Town Jeremy Sarmiento scored a late equaliser against Championship leaders Leicester City at the King Power Stadium and guided his Ipswich team back into the coveted automatic promotion spots. Initially, Leicester seemed on the verge of extending their lead by 10 points , courtesy of an own goal by Leif Davis in the first half. The second half had more excitement, featuring Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen's spectacular save from Wes Burns and Kasey McAteer's valiant effort cleared off the line at the other end. When Hermansen could only parry a Massimo Luongo shot in the area, Brighton loanee Sarmiento seized the opportunity, swiftly scoring a shot that eluded the Danish goalkeeper. This marked the second time in four weeks that Ipswich snatched a late draw against Leicester, following a similar feat on Boxing Day at Portman Road. The draw this time elevated Ipswich above Southampton, reclaiming second place, while Leicester maintained a seven-poi...

UECL: Chelsea take first leg lead

Image
Chelsea 2 - 0 Servette  Christopher Nkunku’s penalty helped Enzo Maresca claim his first win as Chelsea manager, with the Blues securing a two-goal lead against Servette in the first leg of their Conference League play-off. A significantly rotated Chelsea side had been struggling to break down their Swiss opponents until Nkunku was brought down by goalkeeper Jeremy Frick early in the second half. The French forward, one of only two players to retain their place from the team that started the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City   calmly converted the penalty, marking the first goal of the Maresca era. Nkunku, a former Paris St-Germain player, celebrated in his signature style by inflating a blue balloon in front of the ecstatic Chelsea supporters. Chelsea nearly extended their lead shortly afterwards when Frick hesitated with the ball, allowing 18-year-old Marc Guiu to pounce. The Spanish youth international seemed poised to score, but he lost his composure, and Frick managed to ...

Chelsea beat Wolves to end five-game winless run

Image
Chelsea 3 - 1 Wolves Chelsea ended their five-match winless streak in the Premier League with an impressive second-half performance against Wolves, securing a much-needed victory that lifted them into the top four. Author - Lauren W After Tosin Adarabioyo’s opener was cancelled out by Matt Doherty, quickfire goals in the second half from Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke ensured the hosts took all three points at Stamford Bridge. Cucurella, making his 100th Premier League appearance, found the net from close range after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall flicked on Madueke’s cross. Moments later, Madueke doubled Chelsea’s lead, heading in from a corner after Trevoh Chalobah—back in action following his loan spell at Crystal Palace—rose highest to nod the ball into his path. The goals came as a relief for Chelsea, particularly goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, who was at fault for Wolves’ equaliser just before half-time. Spotting Sánchez off his line, Matheus Cunha whipped in a teasing delivery that the ...

Chelsea make history in Poland

Image
Real Betis 1 - 4 Chelsea  Enzo Maresca’s bold tactical reshuffle and astute use of personnel steered Chelsea to victory over Real Betis in the Conference League final. Author | Lewis W Stadium | Stadion WrocĹ‚aw The opening 45 minutes had offered little encouragement for the Premier League side. Betis were deservedly in front at the interval, with Isco orchestrating the first half and providing a no-look assist for Abde Ezzalzouli, who surged through to fire the Spaniards ahead inside nine minutes. But the match flipped after the break. Cole Palmer was afforded greater freedom and, capitalising on the injury-enforced withdrawal of Betis left-back Ricardo RodrĂguez, delivered a commanding display that earned him player of the match honours. Palmer's teasing, dipping delivery from a central area was then expertly glanced in by Enzo Fernández just after the hour mark.
