UECL: Roma win Europa Conference League

 Roma 1 - 0 Feyenoord

José Mourinho became the first coach to win all three current men's UEFA club competitions. Let's explore how that happened. You can watch the highlights by watching the video at the bottom of the page.

This is the match report from UEFA's official website.

UEFA Europa Conference League 2021/22 Final - AS Roma 1:0 Feyenoord - Air Albania Stadium, Tirana - May 25, 2022

Spurred on by their supporters, Feyenoord swiftly looked to reply, forcing Rui Patrício to deal with a succession of threats – Orkun Kökçü's rifled effort the most dangerous of the bunch.

In a rapid start to the second half, Mancini diverted onto his own post, before Rui Patrício sprawled to tip Tyrell Malacia's long-range effort onto the woodwork. Danger averted, Mourinho's men could take a breath.

As the stadium rocked, momentum continued to swing in Feyenoord's favour and Cyriel Dessers was next to have a sniff as he attempted to bundle his way through the Roma penalty area, only to be thwarted by man of the match Chris Smalling.

With the full-time whistle looming, Arne Slot ordered his charges forward. However, as Feyenoord piled on the pressure, a now compact Roma side dropped deep. Bryan Linssen had an opportunity at the death, but the Giallorossi had done enough to see out the final minutes.

Mourinho said beforehand that he wanted to write history – and he did, as his team captured the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League trophy and Roma's first piece of silverware in 14 years.

 Media reaction

Jose Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia: "We have written history. This is a competition we believed we could win since the start.

"Many things are going through my head right now. I feel like a true Romanista. I knew the moment I arrived what it meant to the people. They had been waiting for something like this. This was not work tonight, this was history. We had to write history. We wrote it.

"I am staying, there's no doubt about that. We need to see what our owners, who are fantastic people, want to do next season because this is history, but we can build a special project. Now I'm going to go on holiday, sit on the beach and think about it all for a while."

To the same channel, Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, added: "We are a real team, we proved that. Now we have to celebrate and then start again, which is always difficult after a great victory, but a real team wins, celebrates and starts again."

Former Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham spoke with BT Sport: "One thing I said when I came was I was going to help my team get to the final and win a trophy in my first season. Credit to my team-mates for excellent performances; good goal by Nico, Chris, all our team. We deserved it we have worked hard all year.
